(POST GAME) Butler, Tues. Dec. 31, 7:30pm, FS-1, 970AM

Rutherford and William's balled out Dunn too till last 2 min. Great fight but unfortunately came up short
Rutherford really changed game with his intensity on d to start 2nd half

We just played the #11 team in country basically even without our two best players. Very proud of this team!

Ouch. That hurt.

But amazing second half. Credit to staff and kids for getting that squared up in the second half.

Loved the fight but to take the five point lead and have Butler pull it out at the end really hurts don’t know what Dunn was thinking backing the ball out there.

I hope Coach Anderson realizes the next time to get the ball to Rutherford rather than Dunn with the game on the line .

Personally would’ve gone to Williams over Dunn late. He’s bigger, stronger and has more bounce, and was making shots

Anderson put Figueroa in too late (I saw '72 said the same after I posted it in the game thread).
I think Anderson screwed the pooch on that one. Dunn too much dribbling there at the end. Valiant effort to come back from a 23-point deficit.

I'm proud we came back, but we should've won this considering we lead by five late in the game. I'm hoping we can steal road wins versus DePaul and Georgetown coming up.

We definitely gave one away tonight but if we get Heron back soon and can end up getting something out of a guy line Steere just to have another big body , I wouldn’t want to play us come February and March.

I have no problem with Anderson not putting LJ back in. The 17 minutes they played in the second half without him might have been the best stretch of St. John's basketball in 20 years. Sadly, I'm not sure that is an exaggeration. Why would you mess with that?

We need wins not lessons, but hopefully this game taught them to never give up. They should hold their head high with that 2nd half comeback

Sucks the way they lost but to come back the way they did without Heron and a big Zero from LJ tells you a lot about this team.

After we squandered leads in previous games, many, including myself, talked about basketball being a game of runs and it is. So we had a tremendous 2nd half run, got a lead late and then couldn’t close it out. It’s about W’s and L’s and in my opinion there are no moral victories and that was a bad loss. Another example of us not knowing how to play with a lead. And I may be harsh but Dunn backing that ball out was a “me” play and I just don’t see it.
To add, not sure how you can criticize Anderson for benching Figueroa considering how we played without him. To nitpick when he put him back in is a second guess with no basis considering how poorly he played.
