Possible transfer to SJU

He played at three high schools.
Committed to Creighton.on July 2017. Decommitted on September 2017.
Signed with NC State. After 1 game he wants to transfer.
And this is who we want? Why?????????????
So he could come here, play one game, and decide, nah I'm gonna transfer out? Nah I'll pass on this kid.

But this is SJU so why am I even wondering why we want this kid?
Did anyone say we want this is who we want ?
I thought Paultzman said «  sensé Matt may have some interest «  ?
Why don’t you wait a little to see how things play out before getting frustrated. I am sure staff would do their due diligence. So far all transfers brought in after our first season have worked out very well.
But why even have alittle interest in someone like this?
I'd look at his resume and see his past, and immediately say nextttttttt.
Because we have struck out terribly in recruiting big men for whatever reason. Sima transferred after a year and a half. Yakwe was a bust his second and third seasons and then left. The transvestite never made it to campus. Jordan Brown committed then de-committed prior to completing high school. Owens transferred after his junior year. Keita played a game and then got hurt.
Let’s cut to the chase, we are desperate for someone 6 8 and bigger , no ifs and or buts.
Yes, I understand all that, but there's a good chance he'll quit on us too just like alot of others.
His resume one more time:

"He played at three high schools.
Committed to Creighton.on July 2017. Decommitted on September 2017.
Signed with NC State. After 1 game he wants to transfer."

So tell me, what will make it different for him @ SJU, where everywhere is a same ole bs with this kid.
If I'm Chris, and I really really want him, I'm having a real long talk with this kid, if I sense any (even a tiny bit) hesitation from this kid, I'd pass on him in a heart beat.

After all the transfers we had, we gotta start finding kids this are 100% committed to staying (unless leaving early to the NBA), not just gamble on another kid who might play a few games then just say oh i'm gonna transfer out.

Matt deserves benefit of the doubt on transfers. Guys here would have had a stroke if we tried to bring in Royce White as a transfer; there were no issues with him at Iowa State.

The kid is angry he's third on the center depth chart. Would it be good if kids didn't transfer at the drop of a hat these days? Sure, but this kid wouldn't be third on our depth chart. I know there are a lot of Keita fans out there, but I think this kid would start over him.

Could he enroll here as a "regular" student for second semester and then be put on a scholarship for next year when we have open spots?
Would assume so
But why would he?

Would've loved him to be here this year with Keita and let a certain former football player go. Too little too late IMO regardless...still would like him for next year because we are 99.9% not getting Kofi. Just really don't get why we couldn't have gone to a mid-major big who wanted to transfer to us from some no name school. Or even D2...every team seems to have no problem getting big men except us. Including D2. Some serious negative recruiting must be taking place or we just don't try that hard to find em.

I think we dodged a bullet with Owens transferring. He couldn't stop any center over 215 lbs from backing him down. He was great at blocking shots helping on D and he hustles, but he gave us less than nothing on offense and he didn't rebound well.

Heron and Clark can rebound better then him, they can body strong bigs better than him, and they can contribute a ton offensively. Does anyone really want Owens jacking jumpers at 6'10 this year like him and Renaud demanded? HELLLLLL NO!

Give up a little on defense and then kill them in transition and the other end why making their bigs defend Clark, Simon, and Heron. Good luck.

So you think the team is better off with one real big that can contribute when healthy (Marv is a medium) and that the team is better off with Earlington for four years than they would have been with Owens for one more and that ride to fill this recruiting season? That's funny. If Keita's injury is worse than we think it is this season is done before it started and as unbig as Owens played at times he's still a big.

And also, I read all the quotes from Tariq and his dad. And yes they could have said it better, or better yet not said nothing at all. But if you read between the lines, at least to me, it didn't sound like he "wanted more shots", he got plenty. He wanted to be more a part of the offense. He didn't want to sit in the post and watch 4 guys throw it around the perimeter all game looking for one on one opportunities. He wanted to play in a system that included him, if I was being snarky I'd say any system.

Maybe we we're watching different things, but did Tariq have any semblence of post moves? Dumping the ball down to him in the post would have been worthless. He much preferred to hang around the perimeter and take 3s or deep 2s.

Tariq wanted a Tracy McGrady role in our offense... he ain’t anything close to McGrady therefore he won’t get that anywhere.

Yes.

Marvin Clark played center as a freshman in the closing minutes of an elite eight game and held his own. He played the 4 and 5 exclusively for them for two years. Now he can shoot like a mad man and pull the opposing center out of the lane and tire him.

Heron looked amazing on the BG center and Simon likens amazing on the Duke lottery pick big men last year. We'll be fine.

Would I rather have a focused and humble Owens to give is 15-20 minutes? Absolutely. But that wasn't an option. He wanted to take jumpers. No jumper from Tariq is as good of a shot as one from Ponds, Trimble, Heron, Clark, or Figueroa.

Best five.

I'm pretty sure he saw himself more as a mix of Kobe and Magic. LOL

Well so far this season (small sample size I know) he's taken exactly 1 three (I think this is why he's gonna transfer again), made every shot he's taken from inside the arc (which is pretty amazing given how he is only at TT to heave them up), rebounding at twice the rate of Marv (who has never been and probably never will be a good rebounder) and seemingly happy on twitter despite only playing 16.5 minutes per game. I wonder what caused the sudden change in approach and attitude?

This disgruntled ballhog myth that you guys all want to hoist upon him is patently ridiculous. Was he satisfied that the only way he was going to get the ball in a Chris Mullin offense was via offensive rebound, no he probably wasn't, I'll give you that.

PS Marv averaged 1.6 rb per game in that NCAA tourney while playing 12 minutes per game. He had 1 board in 18 minutes in the game you cite. Averaged 2.2 per game in 11 minutes during the season. He's got a lot of good points but rebounding ain't one of them.

PS if you meant to imply that Trimble would be more important to this team's success than Owens if both were on this team I'm not even sure why I'm bothering.

Take your pick. Point being he wanted to be the 7-footer who was a focal point in offense somewhere, which is light years away from the type of offensive skills he has.
