Am a big fan, but stats don’t lie. He and Champy did a lot of two man stuff together, maybe one factor, two PG experiment early perhaps another, but some stats like his shooting is on him. He really needs to generate more assists too and deferring handling ball early last night yielding to Dylan seems counterproductive Imo.

Maybe the ankle problem that he's dealing with has something to do with it.

I think it's pretty simple.

This was supposed to be Posh's team.

And then it was cut out from under him.

The work he put in. The hours. The dedication to the school, to the coach when you know EVERYONE was knocking on his door in the past two years of transfer mania. All of that was gone.

He needs the ball in his hands. He needs to be the PG. He needs to be THE MAN even if he's nowhere near the leading scorer.

Instead, it's given to someone else.

Posh said that was fine. That he had faith it would work. So did a lot of us.

It hasn't.

In fact, his replacement has done almost the opposite of EVERYTHING Posh has done right for this coach, for this school.

And so all that loyalty and dedication that Posh put in the program has not been returned.

There's one solution, but CMA has shown to have no backbone. A shame, really, because it's obvious.

Send Curbelo packing.

Sending him packing would be weak. Demanding he falls in line is what he has to do. And he hasn’t seemingly done that. When he’s playing well and under control I believe he is the more talented player.

Curbelo has shown time and again no regard for the coach and the program. How many transgressions will it take?

On the other hand, Posh has now bent over backwards for this player and this coach and this school.

And man, I'd take Posh at his best 24/7/365 over Curbelo's best and it's not even close.

Amase, the problem is the times when he is playing well and under control are exceedingly rare and I don't expect that to change much at this point.

Noticed Curbelo last night, during the introductions video, was sitting on one of the photographers/cameraman rolling stool under the basket. He returned to the team lineup when the players were introduced. Now maybe it's part of his mental/game face/private time, but seemed indicative of his aloofness from the team.

Look I love Posh. He gives 100% effort and that never changes. He is a very good player but he is also very limited offensively. Plus have there not been times where he’s been disciplined by coach? He’s not free of criticism there.

Not close? If they are both playing their best, what does posh do better? Don’t think he is a better scorer, shooter or passer. There are few defenders better than posh at harassing the ball handler, curbelo is right there.

Agreed, that’s why I said coach demanding he falls in line is best way. Throwing away the talent cause you can’t get him to follow your lead would be weak IMO.

But fwiw, I was in the camp that said him going in to the press conference and filming it was cause for dismissal. But at this point it looks like we’re passed that. So demand he buys in. If he does we will be a much better team. And if he doesn’t, bench him. Do that and getting rid of him will probably take care of itself.

Since his suspension, Curbelo actually seems more engaged and has so far been more productive.

I like him playing no more than 25 minutes a game, leaving Posh to be the leader. That said, I think whether it is last year's wrist or arm injuries, or this year's leg or ankle injuries, Posh's nagging injuries seem to have affected his shooting and overall play.

I like your posts. But you couldn't be more wrong here.

Posh's first two years at SJU were far better than Curbelo's first two years at Illi in almost every statistical category.

Even Curbelo's celebrated freshman year wasn't on par with Posh's freshman year - the one in which he won BE co-defensive player of the year and ROY.

Posh was the face of the program. He was everything you wanted in a St. John's player.

And he agreed for the sake of the program to change his game on behalf of Curbelo. You think Curbelo has shown to be anywhere near as selfless?

As for transgressions, when has Posh publicly mocked his coach?

Curbelo should have been handed his bags five minutes after he hit send on that post.

And Posh should have been given the keys back to the team - the keys that he's more than earned.

Curbelo should have been handed his bags right then and there.

Just looking at stats on different teams is really hard to compare. Posh was getting 30+ minutes as a freshmen, curbelo was getting less than 20 on a loaded team. Look at them this year. I’m talking more about what their abilities on the court are. I think curbelo has better skills in pretty much every offensive area.

It might sound like I’m disagreeing with you but in reality I think we want the same thing. Curbelo to play good team basketball. CMA brought him here and it’s his responsibility to get him to buy in.

Think we have seen enough to make a fair assessment...

SJU is hardly ever in a position to turn down talent, and Curbelo is a Talent. But now understanding his play-style and seeing the baggage he brings... i think that trumps his Talent. Looking at the team make-up, we would have been better going after a pure shooter / solid PF or back-up for Joel.

Has bringing in Curbelo impacted Posh's productivity? Maybe... tough to be confident in that assertion. Was he better the past two seasons when he was "the PG"? yes- but he had Champ to play off of...

Not sure where else to put this but shows just how much of an outlier this roster is compared to the rest of power conference college basketball teams in regards to shot making ability. Fairly close to explaining how this Posh/Curbelo experiment is going.

This also shows that since we have by far the worst shot making roster among power conference teams that Posh's strength as a penetrator is mitigated by teams being able to just clog the lane because they don't have to respect our shooting. If Posh was surrounded by shooters things would be much easier for him.

I’d love to see how they rate our overall shot quality inside the arc. Surprised by how high they rate our shot quality from 3. Probably has a lot to do with non shooters being left open. However, beyond the analytics, we’ve seen rushed shots at inopportune times all year. Last night possibly being a step in the right direction. As long as Nyiwe doesn’t take another one like we saw..

I refuse to look at that chart unless there are numerous multi-colored lines running all over it with some actually going outside the box and curving back. ;)
