Mullin. Switching coaches every four years is idiocy.
Like a Vulcan mating ritual, the average st. johns fan only emerges every 4 years for a ceremonial coach eviction. They are unable to experience the illogical emotion of "20 wins" or "ncaa appearance".

Vote: Mullin

Maybe I’m reading your post wrong, but winning is illogical for a fan? That’s straight up dopey. As if you think your Yugo is really hitting it’s “sweet spot” the fifth year and on....

I’ve been here for a few decades. No 4-year hiatus for me. You still didn’t explain yourself. You think winning shouldn’t be the goal? Or you’re lauding our record this season which was pure Matt who’s gone now?

This thread is ridiculous. The choices are a guy you can't fire and a guy who we can't hire.
The program reputation is so bad that we can't even entice an assistant coach. What coach worth $2 million would come to a program where coaches and AD's have ended their careers badly?

You know who doesn't replace coaches every four years?

Good programs who don't make bad hires

Saying Mullin should be back is like letting your kid continually put tons of money into one of those claw machines designed to make you lose 99% of the time. Oh, you almost got it....oh no! The claw dropped the stuffed animal right before it got to you! But instead of learning your lesson and tell your kid "ok enough, these things won't work it's a waste", you continue allowing them to play until you're broke with 2 stuffed animals to show for it. In other words, idiotic. If you know winning is extremely unlikely, you do not continue doing whatever that is.

The thing about St. John's is that we don't even give ourselves a chance! Even getting Hurley, Borman, and Hsu here wouldn't guarantee success...but at least we'd have a real shot. Every other program seemingly makes the right hires at the time. Some work out, others don't...but they try. They are doing the best they can or die trying. We do not...we knowingly make stupid decisions. We allow a former legend to hold us hostage to be merely a paycheck to him and his buddy with zero regard for the program itself. We make a stupid contract for way too long and way too much giving ourselves no way out even though he literally never coached a day in his life! How stupid is that? Even an amateur would realize a high risk candidate like him must have a very well-thought out contract that allows an easy exit if the worst happens. That being said, Mullin could do the right thing and split the difference taking $2 million and walking letting the program keep the other $2 million and hire a real coach. But he isn't. The guy is entitled to his money, but there's zero reason he needs to keep every penny and cannot negotiate to set us up for success by leaving.

"20 wins"
And the question is "What 'milestone' did 125 other D1 teams achieve this season?"

Let's try another one:

The answer is "7th place"

Right. It has nothing to do with a contemptuous, nasty, unrealistic fanbase. Nothing at all. The fans have been so full of disdain for so many years that players and coaches have literally had to turn around and face the crowd, throw their arms in the air and scream just to get you bunch of malcontents off your seats and to unfold your arms.

Been going on since Mahoney.

And why should we believe these same jaded malcontents about the next coaching hire since they've contributed so much to the previous firings/hirings?

These same fans once endured an entire season with interim coach Clark and point guard Eugene Lawrence - and now they're calling for heads after an ncaa season of 20 wins. Ridiculous. And the landscape of College BB has changed dramatically, both for us and many non football, big city schools. UCLA sucks, and their history rivals even Duke. They cant be consistent, and neither can we. It is what it is.

But we have the schools most succesful, native born player as coach. He is not using the school as a springboard, as many past (and likely future) head coaches have done. If we jettison Mullin, the school will have lost all it's final link to the past, and will lose it's soul.

Lastly, the way we sent off Ponds was a disgrace. And he said so on twitter. I'm sure Cam Mack noticed...

20 wins isn't always the same 20 wins another program gets. Our OOC obviously inflated our overall record. It's quite simple. In the games that mattered we went 8-10 with some mediocre teams pounding us. To not understand the nuance of this and then blame fans who paid a crap ton of money going to games en mass is absolute absurdity. SJ fans are some of the most loyal in all of sports. It's more shocking there are any fans left with such gross incompetence on display so frequently.

This post is beyond parody...

You're right it's the fan base. Btw it was the fan base who ran Seth Greenberg out of Va Tech and then 2 years later his replacement James Johnson. What a disgrace because in 3 years Virginia Tech had 3 different coaches. Except the guy who ended up at Tech as the 3rd guy was BY FAR the best guy....

You know you've lost when the best argument you have is "they can't keep changing coaches..."
