Pointer Reflects on Lavin & NBA Shot

Pointer is a Latrell Sprewell in the making. (In terms of potential not personality) Sprewell was never a good 3pt shooter but came into the NBA as a so called defensive specialist then became a scorer. Like him Pointer can score. Pointer also has a nice looking shot. The 3 pointer I'm convinced is a mental thing for Pointer.

Love what you do with the site Paul, but I have to disagree.

Spree was an accomplished scorer coming out of Bama. And that includes shooting, not just slashing to the rim. Look at his stats senior year... 39% on 170 attempts. That's a far cry from Dom's 8% on 25 shots.

Wow, minor point but I guess I cannot catch a break. I never said Dom would be a good 3pt shooter. His 3pt shooting is an aberration and it is ridiculous to argue that. I said Dom has a nice looking shot. Actually what BK.. said about FT shooting supports what I am saying. On the line he worked it over his career until it is now effortless. And you are incorrect to say that Dom was "just slashing to the rim." Dom's 54% FG was a lot of slashing and dunks but he also hit plenty of shots from around the FT line which was one of our goto spots for offense (specifically Pointer) and many of those barely grazed the net as they went in. Pointer penetrating and pulling up as well as getting hit off the pass. He also had an option on the baseline which he took maybe 20% over driving to the rim and was very consistent with it.
If you look at Dom shooting inside the arc he's got a nice shot and he can get it off quick. Also has good body control which is all you are seeing in the NBA finals including many of the 3pt shots and almost everything Lebron puts up.

Sprewell was never a good 3pt shooter in the NBA. Also not sure how old you are but when Sprewell came into the NBA he was a guy that many said was too small and would have a limited role if he stuck at all. It was pretty much the consistent that he was categorized as a defensive specialist. The fact that he became a scorer and an All Star was not expected by anyone. Whether Pointer could get to that level I don't know but there aren't a lot of guys in the NBA that have his combination of gifts and if you look at the NBA finals there are really good big men sitting while the smaller guys (6'6"-6'9") are doing the damage. And MVP Curry @ light framed 6'3" Sprewell stuck based upon a ferocious intensity that other guys with freakish speed/hops didn't bring. I think Dom has a shot to do the same and would be a fan favorite in the right situation.

Agree about Dom. The NBA recruits players for specific purposes . Everyone is not a high % shooter He will make it
