PJ ???

Prior to Lavin being hired someone from UNC staff mentioned to me that Pj would be a great hire for STJ and he would love the opportunity.. Now that people are jumping off the Lavin bandwagon, and PJ is available and not that expensive, what are the feelings here about PJ as the new and improved head coach?? He has a pretty good track record, and is plugged in everywhere..yeah he is 64, but with the right staff wouldnt that hire make sense?

I'd rather you coach than PJ.

PJ took seton hall to 6 ncaa tourneys in 12 seasons, and was runner up once..two time coach of the year..I doubt I would do a better job than PJ....He was coach K x and o guy on the olympic team..The man can flat out coach and is well respected..

And is set financially & has zero interest in college coaching.

Thanks, Paultz!

Not to mention, I wouldn't particularly be interested in older guys (PJ will be 65 in a few months) whose bounced all over the place, either.

I think Latrell could be his top assistant as a coach in waiting.

At least when our team chokes, they'd really choke.

with all due respect Dinkins Coach k is 66, and he has two loaded classes for the next two seasons, so age isnt an issue..Coach PJ is a coaches coach, money is not an issue, he just loves the game..he took a crap seton hall program to the title game, how many STJ coaches can ever say that in the ncaa era? Young stud coaches arent interested in coming to STJ...PJ loved coaching the brooklyn nets, and would love to coach STJ...That is just a fact.

How long has Coach K been in the same spot?
How long has Coach K been a consistent winner in the same spot?

Thank you!

Coach K is also in a position where he's almost selecting, rather than recruiting. PJ probably could do the job, but Coach K's situation is totally different than PJ's.

Most importantly, any program that is trying to garner long-term stability probably wouldn't go the route of PJ, either.

Ok so now its not his age, but how long has he been in the same spot...well how many options do you have in mind that would consider coming to STJ that have actually won the natl championship? since there arent any, I will go with a coach that has been in the game, and lost on the final shot in OT..He took a team that had never been in the tourney(ncaa) before to the big dance 6 times in 12 years. He was selected by the same man you said does not have to recruit to be his x and o man on two olympic teams..remember the dream team?? he was on Brooklyn nets staff to teach..and did a great job filling in as temp head coach.he has national name recognition unlike allot of other peoples choices, is clean, and in need of a job..

Coach K has been at Duke a long time, and has been very, successful. So, of course they aren't just gonna up and get rid of him because of his age. There are different dynamics involving Coach K and PJ. I bet you Duke wouldn't target anyone Coach K's or PJ's age when Coach K decide to retire. You only go with guys that age when they are already on your bench or a program that is just desperate for some form of life or looking for a quick fix (ie, SMU). How long do you think Larry Brown will at SMU?

You might as well go after John Thompson, Jr. or Dean Smith since we're talking about coaches playing in national title games. How about we go after Guy Lewis? Rollie Massimino is still out there, too.

A program that is seriously trying to establish or re-establish themselves do not go after old guys who have bounced around everywhere. Like Paultz stated.... He's finacially set and doesn't have any interest in coaching college hoops.

in case you were wondering we have lost 10 straight big east games, and we are kind of desperate. We have made how many ncaa in the past 10 seasons? I would call it desperate times call for desperate measures. I am all for a PJ bringing in some young assistants to groom for the future...But the man can coach, teach, has won, and has national recognition..He must be pretty good for coach K to have asked him not once but twice to coach beside him..I am not saying he is the only option, but a pretty good one..The difference is PJ is not retired, and the other coaches you mentioned are retired..plus Dean has a pretty good gig at UNC...

IMO, I don't feel we're SMU-desperate.

Rollie Massimino isn't retired either, and I don't want him.

Dinkins from you lips to God's ears, but I do fear we are that desperate...remember we are traditionally a winning program and Smu is not..We are all on the same team, we want to win!!! God bless!!

We'll agree to disagree, in regards to us being "that desperate."

I, certainly agree on the latter. Thanks! Likewise!

Not a fact re: SJU interest.

And again how long did it take him to turn the Hall around?
Was it 6years? 66 +6 =what 72 years?

I`m just going to throw out 2 names and see what people think

Greg Gard (wisc) Bo Ryan talks highly of him, and he can teach alot
Dwayne Stephens Mich St.) very good assistant and also a master recruiter.

Dont think they have a NY connection but just throwing these names out there and see what people on here say about them.
