Pitino and Iona
Pitino will feast off transfers coming home. That’s where it got harder for SJU.
67 isn't old for someone as.motivated as Rick to return to prominence. Boeheim and K not talking retirement. Agree w you Moose. They will make everything more difficult for SJU.
The Iona president and AD should be ashamed of themselves.
You guys are nuts. I said we should have gotten Pitino last year and people on here laughed. Iona will be a big time team. He will get recruits and they will play in the Garden. Oh yea they will also own the Garden. No way Anderson recruits over Pitino and Hurley at UConn.
Pitino is a winner
Pitino will feast off transfers coming home. That’s where it got harder for SJU.
The number of transfers coming home every year, will be greater then the number of open scholarships Rick will have. We'll get our share. Plus, he's not in the Big East, so I don't consider him to be our competition. Maybe we'll go after the same kid here or there, but I'm more concerned with what the other Big East teams are doing.
Agree,I thought we should have offered. He will not take yrs to bring Iona to the top
The top of what?

If he’s recruiting a kid for one or two years of eligibility. In a conference where Iona is a consistent NCAA team. More and more nba players are coming from non power 5 conferences. I’m not saying the sky is falling. But the job just got harder since SJU is a school that has lived off transfers for quite a long time.

This seems like a pretty clear indication that all the posters who last year said Pitino would never come to St. John's were wrong.

Dirtiest recruiter around. They won’t be our competition for much. They’ll be a lot better with Pitino, but a lot of overreaction. From the Boston Celtics, now to Iona? Iona under Cluess always won and got good transfers jn. They’ll get some more for sure but I don’t see them becoming Gonzaga.

Rick Pitino: "My biggest regret in coaching was leaving Providence College. They were two magical years in my life. It was a small Catholic school with a small gym I loved so much. I'm going back to a similar situation. I know I'll love it equally the same." #icmbb

Can’t wait to see the white suit in Atlantic City for MAAC Tourney
Anyone who believes this Bullshit is crazy. His biggest regret is getting busted for cheating, on his wife and paying off kids. If you believe the DOB was paying for the strippers, shame on you.

Glad that St. Johns did not hire him. If Iona wants to prostitute themselves in order to win, that's on them. All the thirsty handlers in NYC will be looking for a PayDay courtesy of Slick Rick.

I can't believe that a Catholic school hired Slick Rick

Wonder if part if his Calculus was to stick it to us for not giving him a shot last year. Him in the market will be harder on us. Regardless, St. John’s made the right decision.
Not a big crapshoot for mid major iona. I dod t exactly call it but see my post on the cluess thread from this morning.

Chance to elevate the program to national national prominence
You woulda thought they learned their lesson with Valvano

Will be interesting to see what, if any bad press Iona gets for the hire. Maybe it would be amplified at St. John's but I'm thinking he gets more of a warm welcome than anything else.

Still, happy with Coach Anderson but if Iona goes big and Anderson doesn't live up to it here fans will pull their hair out in a few years.

Who would you rather have coaching and mentoring your kid? Pitino, Hurley or CMA. Because for me it ain’t even close, CMA by a long shot. And for those of you who call Pitino a “winner”. Yeah he’s a winner on the court but a loser in so many other ways. CMA is a winner on and off the court. Same as the kids who play for him.

I can see him attracting grad transfers, jucos with 1 or 2 years left, transfers and 2-3 star kids to Iona. I have a very difficult time seeing him recruit 4 and 5 star kids to New Rochelle. Truth be told I have a hard time seeing him get 3 star recruits who want the big time college feel and experience.
In any event he can clearly coach with the best of them. We shall see what will transpire but for Me the sky is not falling by any means.
