I haven't heard anything about us and Nolan. I recall hearing about his recruitment a couple of months ago, but there was no mention of the Johnnies. I wanted to know more about his game, as I was hoping we could get involved with him.

Maybe, the staff is or has inquired about Nolan, but I haven't heard anything.

EDIT: I stand corrected.... It seems like Rivals is stating Nolan is on our radar.

Is there a link of where we are mentioned?

Wingate's article crack me up.

I know you can't print verbatim, but what were some things he mentioned?

Read any thread on this board or JJ.
Honestly just mentioned the names we all know and snuck in Nolan.

Oh he 'heard' about Chandler. Yea sure. :p

LOL Oh, okay. Got'cha! So, it seems more like he's been peeking around this board and JJ for info, and not info gathered on his own?

Five High schools in four years. Sounds like the type of kid we should probably stay away from.

I agree. Head cases need not apply.

Coach Keady was asked what was the biggest difference between Lavin as his Graduate Assistant at Purdue to today: "He's a disciplinarian now."

Is it any wonder that Nurideen Lindsey was gone shortly after his mom and entourage were posting on Facebook that the coaching staff were suppressing his game?

Character counts.

To be fair we dont know his reasons for all the schools

I usually give kids the benefit of the doubt, but it's hard to imagine any explanation that could excuse that many transfers. Either the kid only cares about basketball, or he has major academic issues, or he has disciplinary issues.

Funny thing is, he isn't that highly ranked that he should be such a head case.

If we're going to take a flyer on a kid who some might question, I'd prefer it to be a guy like Chandler.

Don't know this particular kids case. But I've followed recruiting for over half a century. I've seen many terrific kids with an equal amount of High schools on their resumes. Family situations dictating where the kid plays. Dad in the military, or in a job with frequent transfers. Or no family - sometimes kids are constantly moved thru the foster system. In this ecomomy, many schools, especially church schools are closing/consolidating.

Yes, a lot of transfers can mean a head case, or a discipline problem. But there are a lot of other possible explanations as well.

That's part of the job of a coach. Getting enough information so a he can make the best evaluation in projecting the chances of success a recruit has.

Lavin's job is easier than the average, as his choices should come from a relatively more abundant and clear cut pool of recruits Steve is a naturally born recruiter. He is intelligent, energetic, charismatic, friendly and sincere. The whole package.. He is a magnet and doesn't need projects.

Phillip Nolan may not be a project but he certainly has some of the symptoms .

This year is very different. It well may be that Steve's medical problem and the state of flux in the Big East produced a real recruiting liability. Some recruits, like Ricardo Gathers, were spooked and fled the coop.

This has been a tough year on the recruiting trail but Steve is resourceful enough to rebound from it but maybe not this year.

IMO, the foreign trip was primarily made to plug this recruiting gap and secondarily to create a new pipeline.

I don't think the trip would have been made if our class was set in place.

Just too many recruiting ifs and maybes right now.
