People need to step up and give this young man the adoration he deserves.

--edit.. and Phil, i have been following redmen.com since it's start(aol boards too), and I have never started a thread. You sir, deserve it! Thank you.

The fact that he is anything less than a fan favorite is sad given where he was recruited and how he performed on and off the court. Big Shot Phil.

I believe we judge all players too quickly. It takes them time to grow, especially with this team, since they did not have upper class men to learn from. Every one wants to win now, but it takes time to grow a winning culture. Will see what the future brings, but am so happy that this group believed in themselves when so many didn't.

Phil has been very solid and reliable. I'm at a point where I feel his shot will go in every time he lets it go. That's a credit to his maturity and work ethic. Has been a pleasure to watch him this year

Let's be honest. Phil might have driven me nuts some games but we literally wouldn't have a chance at the postseason without Phil this year because he won us the syracuse game and he pretty much won the game for us today.

This year more than any other the past 4 is a total team effort but kudos to Phil because he was lights out today

Great senior season! Much improved overall. At the beginning of the year everyone wondered where we'd get the scoring from with Sampson and Sanchez gone. Well Dom and Phil more than made up for it. I'm so happy that Phil saved his best for our biggest game and his last official home game.

The radical change in PG4 is the radical change in our offense. In the past, far too often, PG, DLO, Branch, ANYONE pulled the trigger too fast on looks, not believing theyd get the ball back if they passed. Now they move the ball till they find a great look, and when PG4 has been open, he's nailed shots - today 6 of 7 from three. Dead eye - and today he shot down the Hoyas, who were so swarmed on by our defense they probably are pulling stingers out of their bodies right now.

Phil was MVP today. Love Pointer, but Greene stepped up big time. Definitely an unsung hero. Great game Phil!

Like you mjmaherjr, Phil might have driven me nuts too -- although for more than just "some games." More like lots of games, in fact, including most of his first two years here, when his seemingly endless cross-court over-dribbling and questionable shot selection would drive me crazy. But i never questioned his heart and his desire, and it's been great to watch his game improve dramatically over the course of the last two years. Couldn't be happier for him today. One of the best displays of shooting I've seen by a Johnnie in a meaningful game.

And this is where I challenge, his first two years he was forced to be the point guard-esque. This year, he shines in his role...

Great game today by Philly. Love the 7 rebounds and defensive intensity. Indeed, he's had a major hand in some big wins.

I'd still make Dom #1 star personally for he was the general out there today. He was often alone in that paint in this game with Felix as the power forward. I just think he's just in this ridiculously illuminated state right now where he's Keanu Reeves seein' the matrix or something.

But a Phil thread. It's been a pleasure having you these last four years, and in so many ways, he was a rock, the one without the overt drama, the one you wonder that may help bring reason to the Obepkas and Jordans from time to time? Whatever. Respect. Always.

Phil has single handedly won two games for us this year - @Cuse and today vs. Georgetown. Mad props.

I grant you that; he never should have been put in that position. But that aside, his shooting percentages were just awful in his first two years. Some of that can be attributed to injury, but a lot of it can be attributed to terrible shot selection. Thankfully, that's in the past, and he's now probably the guy you want shooting the ball when the game's on the line. Phil and Dom are two prime examples of Al McGuire's "The best thing about freshmen ..." comment.

They thought they wouldn't get the ball back, because they wouldn't. Sampson shot everything he touched.

I thought the team seemed reluctant to give the ball to DLo late in second hall.
