Just thought it would be good for the site to put up a post on a new thread from one of the posters over on johnnyjungle who is one of my favorites " Choz4life" for those who don't go over there he is seriously connected not just to the Gauchos but the local hoops scene in general.

Anyway the discussion was about Lavin and all that has happened recently

Here it is

"Aint worried. Just gotta realize that the progress of the program gotta be pushed back a year.

Thing is this: Sit in a living room wit Steve Lavin and if you aint optimistic bout the program then you aint gonna be optimistic bout anytin.

He is the most impressive one-on-one recruiter I ever seen (and I seen Cal in two living rooms). He wows them on the couch. He remembers evrybody's name (EVRYBDY'S) and they affiliation like he Rainman or sometin. He knows more when he walk in that door than any coach. Knows the kid, his fams, his in-laws, his HS coach, his AAU coach, his assistant AAU coach, his dog, his iguana.

Lav aint gonna get evry kid (see Kyle). But he is the best closer I ever seen and I seen plenty.

He luvs St. John. Luvs his colleagues. Luvs his secretary(s). Even luvs Aldo over at D'Angelo and I dont know why (just playin bre!). How many cafeteria workers you know get a Christmas card from a HC? He here fo the long haul cause fo the first time since Purdue he feels the family atmosphere that some y'all deride, but most y'all know make St. John a special place."

I remain,

I remember Choz from on the old redmen site. He seems connected to the bb community. I am impressed by his comments, and I hope this reinforces our optimism for the programs direction.

It is a great piece by Choz. He's connected but more than that he gets it. I too believe that Lavin's in this for the long haul and more than anything wants to win big here. SJU is a different type of school. There is loyalty here that Lavin won't find anywhere else, and I mean that. SJU kept Norm around for longer than they probably should, simply because they liked him and he's a good guy. It's not all about winning at SJU and that does make it special.

The rebuild will certainly be slowed slightly due to varying factors like his illness and 3 of our guys not qualifying and now Lindsey. Lindsey was obviously a problem though and dragging the team down. We're still right on the brink of something big. We are getting one of our 3 back soon in Garrett. We are getting Cummings and hopefully that "shooter" if all works out right. A few more strong recruits and we're major players starting next season. Main thing is Lavin getting back to full strength so he can get our recruiting in gear and assure both his players and potential recruits that he's back in business.

I have been on this site for a very long time, and I must admit lurking over the other sites has caused me to find Choz and the is spot on in his posts. He shows an intimate knowledge of what is going on the the basketball world. He has a simple down to earth perspective that is a joy to read. I think he is right on about the things he says about our coach. )ver the years Choz has become one of my favorite posters. Coach Lavin has had a setback that he is dealing with and yes it has trickled down to the team. He is however getting stronger every day and will be back. He will tend to all the things that need to be attended to, and when he does and he has regained his strength, he will be a dynamo that few people can match. He will do all the things that he does that make him who he, recruiting and adding pieces to the team he has already has in Red and White. Oh yes he will become a elite coach and build us to that level. We can just dream about. Just a little while longer........

While he may show an intimate knowledge of what is going in the basketball world, he has zero knowledge of how to write and use proper English/grammar.

MJ thanks for the post, it is appreciated but anyone who has followed this program for a while, in my case the 31st season, realized much of what Choz said on their own. With or without the 3 ineligible recruits, this was the best class ever recruited to SJU and Lavin did it against all odds. A downtrodden program, little staff, no time to recruit, I could go on but we all know the crap he faced but he did it.
As an aside for those who did not know, Mullin attended Louie's camp as a little kid. There was a 10 year history before he stepped foot on campus. Malik Sealy, may he rest in peace, was recruited for years by the staff. I can remember Ron Rutledge telling me about a high school sophomore they were recruiting from Rice high school who could do amazing things, meaning they recruited Felipe for years.
Point being the class Lavin brought in was amazing given he was out of the game for 7 years. I wish him well first and foremost, that is the primary concern, once he gets back all else will fall into place. This is a setback we shall overcome.
Take your time coach and get well.

Was there truly a need for your comment?
Certainly not IMHO.

I have to downgrade you to small peanuts for the time being.

That's Choz writing style. He is who he is and doesn't try to be anyone else. His writing style is one of the reasons I like him so much.

Choz is just keeping it real. He is a man of the streets and doesn't pretend to be anyone else.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for that guy. I haven't met him yet but I've known him from the sites for a long time and he is one of the strongest great character guys any of us will ever come across.

The world needs more people like Choz4life

One of my favorite words and beliefs is "Respect". We need to accept one another. It's what gives us strength. Go Redmen!

Comments like this are why Choz no longer posts here. Shame.

It's really not that hard to figure out what choz is saying. Some people just feel the need to be dicks on fan forums.

What a schmuck. Some people I wonder why they have negative karma, you certainly aren't one of them

Am I the only one that suspects that Choz's posts are a created voice, an endeavor of literary style that is not at all easy to maintain, and in fact worthy of praise?

Great post by choz. I really miss his posts on here. He was always one of my favorites to read. His knowledge and sincerity were always so obvious. I wish he would post here again in the future.

Don't rag on the guy for spelling and grammar. I personally love the style, and yes, it IS a style. Don't confuse that with ignorance, ever.
