Parker Jackson Cartwright (Arizona)

 MJ,
You have been spending way too much time on Johnny Jungle! LOL!
I guess when one is in dialogue on a daily basis with the likes of Realfan, Marco Baldi, Illwill, Boo, and the rest of the negative attitude gang, it cannot help but rub off!
impersonating Fun with all the quotes is cute but Fun uses a far superior writing skill set along with some actual validity when challenging a fellow poster.
That said, I appreciate your views nonetheless but all you had to say was "72, I do not think Erv Walker is terrific" and then actually stated WHY!

You actually contracticted yourself in your poor attempt at counterargument by saying:
"Walker has averaged double figures every season for the Gators. I've always enjoyed him as a long-distance shooter. I really wanted this kid when he was coming out of CTK. Unfortunately, to no avail."

WHY would you have wanted this not-so-terrific kid? Yes, he would have been an immediate qualifier.....I agree with you! Yes, he had offers from Stanford and Virginia in addition to Florida......yes, he was a very good student ...even though he went to CTK.

You say ----Stacked" Gator teams? I guess to each his or her own. I guess I don't toss around certain words lightly. They've had some decent-to-good teams since he's been with Florida"

Well SHUT MY MOUTH! If, in Erv's Soph and junior years, being nationally ranked and going to the Elite 8 LAST YEAR is decent-to-good------------I cannot wait until St. John's is FAIR! There I go tossing certain words around lightly again! maybe I should have used the term "very good player" but I doubt that would have kept you silent on my admiration of his game.

Stacked Gator team....well the next time St. John's puts FOUR Parade and McDonald All-Americans on the same court as little 5'8 Walker....who was NOT......I would venture you would have been one of the first the say....Lord All Mighty St. John's will be stacked this year. Yes, you are correct the Gators spent much of the past 2 years being in the national rankings, as they started this year......almost like us!!

Name another terrific guard out of NYC under 5'8? Why Hortaio you missed my point entirely! I think he has been the BEST.....that should be enough considering the many high school kids that began as 5'8 point guards and so many actually grew to 5'10 miraculously in college but always looked 5'8 to me. I am a poor judge of height.
Maybe I should have compared him to Mugsy Bogues, Spudd Webb or Earl Boykins for better effect....no he is not the leapers they were but just as quick IMO.

Oh, and to really get you going.......I think the backcourt of Erv, along with HS ALL-A's Bradley Beal, and Kenny Boynton....with former RU starter Mike Rosario coming off the bench as the 4th guard.......is a TERRIFIC backcourt!
Ours is just SO-SO........at least against the likes of Northeastern, Detroit and especially Kentucky.

I guess you're on JJ too often, as you have the names down pat. Which name do you go by on there? Hmmmmmmm....

No, sir! I wasn't impersonating Fun at all. Not to mention, a nice attempt to discredit my challenge with a slight. It's fine, as I'll challenge this post, as well. ;)

You actually contracticted yourself in your poor attempt at counterargument by saying:
"Walker has averaged double figures every season for the Gators. I've always enjoyed him as a long-distance shooter. I really wanted this kid when he was coming out of CTK. Unfortunately, to no avail."

How did I do that?

WHY would you have wanted this not-so-terrific kid? Yes, he would have been an immediate qualifier.....I agree with you! Yes, he had offers from Stanford and Virginia in addition to Florida......yes, he was a very good student ...even though he went to CTK.

Now, I see why you thought I contradicted myself.... Comprehension isn't one of your better traits. I never said, Erving Walker wasn't a good or solid player (which, he is). Personally, I wouldn't have used the word "terrific."

Well SHUT MY MOUTH! If, in Erv's Soph and junior years, being nationally ranked and going to the Elite 8 LAST YEAR is decent-to-good------------I cannot wait until St. John's is FAIR! How come you conveniently left out what Florida accomplished during Walker's freshmen season? Hmmmmmmm.... So, because a team is nationally ranked that makes the team "stacked," right? Got'cha! I also noticed you left out what Florida did in the tournament during Walker's sophomore year. It seems you're conveniently leaving out facts to boost your argument. Clever, '72. I've also noticed that you continue to bring St. John's into the equation. Stay on topic.

Stacked Gator team....well the next time St. John's puts FOUR Parade and McDonald All-Americans on the same court as little 5'8 Walker....who was NOT......I would venture you would have been one of the first the say....Lord All Mighty St. John's will be stacked this year. You can't stay on topic to save your life. I never mentioned St. John's when we first had this disagreement. But, you consistently brings St. John's into the equation. I'll bite again, but can you stay on topic? So, because Florida had four Parade and Mickey D's A-A's on the team it automatically constitutes being stacked, right? They had some good teams and parlayed their "stacked" team into an Elite 8 run last season.

Name me another guard under 5'8 that came out of NYC.... Otherwise, this is like saying midget #1 is taller than midget #2. Hell! They are both short, so there really isn't no one to compare them to.... Right, Celtics?

Oh, and to really get you going.......I think the backcourt of Erv, along with HS ALL-A's Bradley Beal, and Kenny Boynton....with former RU starter Mike Rosario coming off the bench as the 4th guard.......is a TERRIFIC backcourt!

Once again, you can't stop yourself from tossing St. John's into your argument. I guess when it's a strawman argument that is what one do.

Speaking of Walker what happened to " No Hope " ? Or what did he change his handle here to ?

I had forgot about "No Hope," maher. You pulled one out of the hat. LOL

No Hope loved Walker,Tyrone Nash,I think some short pg from archbishop malloy or something like that and I think I remember he didn't like Ricky Torres.

And he really loved and I'm sure still does love NoHope in the 3rd person. :)

I remember he had a baby named " Somehope " or something like that. He's gotta still be posting on this site just under a different name but I'll find him sooner or later.

I actually liked him a lot as a poster. He cracked me up

The PG your thinking of was St. Mary's PG Gil Montalvo who went on to play for Cluess at CW.

He was kinda entertaining, maher. I'm sure someone would've picked up on his style of posting, if he was still around.

I believe Moose is right about the name of that particular PG.

NEWS FLASH GENIUS:
The "topic" is a 5'6 point guard that is a 2014 ST. JOHN's TARGET!
I mention Erv, whom I've watched since his high school days, ..as an analogy........sorry for the big words:(
if my using the word "terrific" sets you off this much I may have to use words with easier to digest cannotations for real fans like yourself........how is that for an insulting analogy?
I am sorry for conveniently omitting Erv's freshman year......the only year Florida was not nationally ranked.....as I did not think that was a qualification for his being a TERRIFIC player. That may have been the year you called decent just as you may have thought SJ was that year ......not!
Now, for all the bitching and moaning you have done about Erv Walker if you could actually name a better point guard during the Norm Roberts era.......including THIS year....I am all ears. If not, go back and play with the other Mary Contraries on JJ who challenge each other because they like seeing themselves in print.
Your 10 minutes of fame here are officially over!
BTW, I know Fun, and you are no FUN!

I know what the topic was about. But, you consistently had to bring up St. John's in a bad light to make your point. I just wanted you to stick to the topic (which, you couldn't seem to do).

The word "terrific" didn't set me off. I asked one question and you took off on a tangent. I didn't do any bitching and moaning on this subject. Just disagreed with you a time or two. It's all copacetic.

Mary Contraries? Nah! Not my style. I'm sure you and many others who've seen my posts know better.

I have have 5 more minutes of fame, right?

Willie Worsley of the Texas Western national championship team was about 5'6".

Fuschia, stay on topic! LOL!
Thank God you did not mention he was "terrific" or MJ would have poopooed in his pants!!

BTW! Willie later became the choir director of the Boys Choir of Harlem that was disbanded in 2007 due to a number of scandals. The biggest backer of the choir was a guy named "Dinkins" LOL!!!
Sorry MJ, I could not resist!

For anyone who's seen Jackson-Cartwright play - does the kid look like he has a frame that will grow?

I realize how ridiculous that sounds but some times you can just see a kid has some growing left in him. This guys only a class of 2014 right? And he's being touted as one of the best PGs in that class, personally I'm thrilled we're involved with him. I know the staff has their preferred type of recruit but I'd like to see us hunting more pure PGs, shooters, and true big men. Sounds old school but you can see that's what our team lacks right now. Lav will always be able to find wings who can run, but in the future were gonna need to fill out the roster with one or two guys above 6'9, a born point guard, and guys who can stroke it.

In my mind those are the missing pieces.

There should be a rule that sj not recruit any player below 6 ft tall.....IF he joins team as currently constituted, the womens team would have a taller backcourt....SJ must get big, solid, athletes. TIRED of hearing how a 6'6 guy plays like a 6'8 guy..get the taller guy..you cant teach height..btw,SETON HALL,with a taller team than sj,rutgers is doing better so far, despite common view that they were number 3 in metro area...

Not to mention, the kid could very, well end up being a 5-star player before it's all said and done.

Having a tall backcourt is great... but this kid has ENORMOUS upside. Let's also not forget he's a Sophomore, in HS. Not junior, or a senior, or reclassified senior. At this point in his HS career Anthony Davis was a 6'3 wing being recruited by Cleveland State. Let's stay with Parker and see where he "stands" a year and a half from now.

Parker has it all. He is a true PG with a great skill set. However, he doesn't have the frame or by looking at his parents the genes to grow all that much more. But boy can he play. I know being small doesn't rule him out for us or mean he can't play at our level but t doesnt help. There are plenty of top PG prospects out there with better size.
