is galveston nice ? was thinking of taking a ride down therePlenty of great golf courses, museum district, mid town night life, The Galleria for over crowded shopping area, but it's where the teams stayed for the NCAA South regionals. Galveston and Space Center are south of the city.

It's okay. Beaches on Long Island are just as nice, if not nicer. Last time I was there, there was a ton of seaweed, water was really warm and the jellyfish had taken over... but that was in the month of August. Galveston has an interesting history, wiped out in 1900 by a hurricane, 10,000 died... so the few buildings that survived are all historical landmarks.
Someone else mentioned NASA. That is well worth checking out. When we were there there was a spacewalk going on at the ISS and it was neat to hear the chatter back & forth and you can watch mission control from a viewing gallery. The massive rockets on display on the grounds are cool as well.
The Astros have a nice stadium, worth a visit if they are at home. We went to Kemah Boardwalk (okay) and Moody Gardens in Galveston (geared towards kids / families) as well.
This concludes everything I know about Houston! Have only been there a few times (once just to see the Mets play at the Astrodome). At least you won't be there in the height of summer when the heat / humidity is brutal.
