Package Deals

With the recent commitments from Pinzon and Traore, along with 2020's Posh and Wusu, I tried to think of other players coming from the same schools in the same year. The only others I could think of are Boo Harvey and Michael Porter from the same JC.

From AAU there was of course the Riverside coup of the late 90s with Artest, Reggie Jessie, Erick Barkley, Sharif Fordham.

High school is tougher. Anthony Glover and Chudney Gray from Rice?

Don't forget Riverside alums Chris, the Truth and Mark Jackson in the 1980's; Malik Sealy; also Omar, Willie Shaw and Kyle Cuffe played for them. They were a machine until Ernie Lorch got caught for his horrific abuse of young guys, I remember Lorch a king of the AAU/college feeder programs sitting in MSG a few rows behind Louie. I also remember that we thought we had Brand coming in until he opted for Duke--he would have been the difference maker for the 98-99 team.

Going back to the sixties, you had Ralph Abraham and Jim Smyth, both from St. John's Prep. Also, I think we had multiple players from Molloy Stanner progenitor, St. Anne's.

Ralph Abraham was a favorite of mine from those late 1960s teams; great dunker in warmups.

Chudney Gray and Anthony Glover (Rice) although teammates, were two years apart in high school. Gray also came in and played with another Rice Alum (Felipe Lopez) and besides Gray, Glover also played with fellow Rice Alum, Kyle Cuffe.

Other different players from a different class but from the same high school who = played together here:

Reggie Carter and Wayne McKoy (LuHi)
Bill Wennington and Rob James (LuHi)

In the same class I have:

Larry Washington and Curtis Redding (Canarsie High School) - Both went to separate colleges out of high school but transferred here around the same time.

David Russell and George Garrison (Bellport High School)

Carl Beckett and Jayson Williams? Both CTK, just not sure same year

I don't consider this a package deal. A package deal is taking a low level recruit to make a stud happy. These are teammates that are coming together. Each would have been recruited on their own. Different cases to me.

That's certainly one kind of "package deal", but there's also the kind where 2 high school teammates of equal talent want to play college ball together.

Scottie Lewis and Alex Klatsky come to mind.
Obekpa and Balamou
Good call.
Lavin did this a few times.
Orlando Sanchez and Marcus Bourgault from Monroe CC.
And Jakarr Sampson and Max Hooper from Brewster.

Lamont Hamilton and Daryll Hill played together at Milford Academy and with the New York Panthers AAU team.
As I recall it Milos Dumic was a package deal. But we never got the second half.[/quote)
and we took Bob Antonelli without the Dave Popson payoff.

Paris Horne was not heavily recruited, but he had some sort of connection to Justin Burrell, who was. That's why we took him. Horne became the better player.

Burrell has committed to us long before Paris. Their prep school came to Montreal for the Annual Sun Youth Christmas Tournament and Glenn Braica called me and asked me to watch Danny Greens brother. I went on a Friday night for their opening game with my kids who were little at the time. Justin was looking out for me as Glenn told him we would be there and he was the most gracious high school kid, playing and shooting around with my kids both before and after his game.
I told Glenn late that night to forget Green as the Horne kid is much better. We went back the next two days to watch Bridgeton Academy play and my kids kept chasing Paris around the court telling him to go to St. John’s.
You all know the rest. But they were never a package deal. Justin and Paris were recruited at different times and each on their own merits.
