He's gonna polish off the Polish league!

Always felt Marcellus Earlington would be an end of bench player being undersized for PF & not quick enough to play wing. That said, at a gathering of college players recently, a guy who follows NJ hoops told me ME was really killing it and demonstrated a lot of quickness & was in excellent shape. Just a small sample, but I hope my original prognosis was off. As a fan of overachieving. heady guys like Singleton, Middleton & Ty Grant, it would be cool to see ME become a solid role player for SJU in time. Tough player with winning attitude.

Very interested in the competition between ME, Caraher and Champaigne. Would think they’ll be fighting mostly for the same minutes especially once’s steer is cleared. As Champaigne gets older he’ll hopefully transition more to the wing but with Dunn our depth looks like it’s in the backcourt and he’ll have to contribute upfront.

Pleasant surprise. Based on what I saw last year, I lowered my expectations for ME. If he recognized he needed to put in some big time work in order to play at this level, good for him. He seems easy to root for.

I think the fact ME didn't leave with the coaching change says something. Hopefully it means that MA sees something in ME that he likes and wanted him to stick around.

It would be a pleasant surprise for sure. I think I’ll have to see it to believe it. Always felt Earlington didn’t have the skills set nor size/athleticism combo. I’d love to be proven wrong about it.

I believe we all share your feelings both about him originally being an end of bench player and wanting him to succeed. The video that was posted here a few weeks ago showed that he was clearly putting in the work required to be in the best possible physical shape and to improve his skills with a personal trainer.
I have no doubt that hard work will be greatly appreciated and rewarded by CMA and staff. I strongly believe that all three members of last years freshman class will be solid contributors this season as they all have a great attitude and work ethic.
Wishing all three the very best.

FWIW, I also heard that the new staff is very impressed with his work ethic. I would love to see him develop into a Billy Singleton type player.

I can see the Middleton comparison most. I'd love to see a Singleton / Grant ceiling. He's probably 3 inches shorter than both those guys. Grant became a machine of strength and positioning often dominating much taller players on both ends. Singleton was a really skilled player hampered by tragic knees that would have ended anyone else's career. He also had a great work ethic. I went to Alumni Hall daily sometimes several times/day and he seemed to always be there practicing. Earlington may be as strong as both those guys and he is more athletic not sure he has their hands either but if he does then maybe. Charles Minlend who developed an outside shot but spent most of his early career under the basket with a combination of strength and athleticism did great things. That might end up being his game being a power player inside/out which would help compensate for his height.

Another possible player comparison for ME could be with Anthony Glover. Their physical size is very comparable and AG was always "undersized" but had great heart and determination which led to success, I'd love to see ME become a 10 and 6 guy like Anthony.

ME’s offensive value IMO will be that he can play some both in and out and as such could prove to be a tough matchup at times. Defensively, he is a tough athlete and a fierce competitor. Now, he is far from a guarantee but I will say again, many very knowledgeable BB people from Jersey cautioned to not underestimate him when he signed with the Johnnies and decided to focus on basketball. His HS career was an afterthought to football and he was still pretty damn effective against some big time players, including a game against Roselle Catholic matched up against Naz Reid.

I was pleasantly surprised by his play at the end of games. I always felt Mullin didn't recognize the value of Roberts and Earlington early enough.
