A Willis Reed entrance at the Garden next week, to the tumultuous roar of 5,000 St. John's fans.

Steve Lavin: I wouldn't rule out the possibility of [Chris Obekpa] playing tomorrow #sjubb

@KieranDarcy: Obekpa will be evaluated again tomorrow at Wells Fargo Arena, prior to Nova game. Lavin sounded cautious. Xavier more likely. #sjubb

He is an orthopedist I believe;

@NYPost_Brazille: JaKarr Sampson said Obekpa "looked fine" working out today. #sjubb

Or maybe they will just put Mutombo in Obekpa's uniform. He looked pretty good in the Geico ads.

True. That Asian kid with the corn flakes reminded me of Chucky Sproling driving the lane against Gtown.

As much as I'd love to see CO in the line-up tomorrow, I don't want him rushed back to the point where he re-injures his ankle and makes it worse. The Xavier game next week is just as critical as tomorrow, imho.

If anything this is just eating into Wright's preparation for the game unsure of who will play.

Doctors cleared him, play him.
Tomorrow's game has huge RPI ramifications.

Good point. I hadn't considered that. Maybe Lavin is using the "Belichek Mind Trick" on Wright. ;)

@NYPost_Brazille: Full Sampson quote on Obekpa: “He looked fine, he’s not limping or anything. He looked like he’s ready to play tomorrow.” #sjubb

makes sense;

@NYPost_Brazille: To be clear, Lavin was cautious regarding Obekpa. My guess is he plays Tuesday against Xavier. #sjubb

This is a tricky one. Fundamentally, I agree, if the doctors clear him that is a big deal and perhaps should be the biggest guiding factor.

But the turnaround to Xavier is only 2 days, and that is another monster game in terms of tournament implications. It would be tough to play CO tomorrow, have him have a setback in a loss, and then be in a worse position for him to play on Tuesday.

The analysis would be a bit easier if this were Tuesday. If the doctors say he can go in that game, give it a whirl. If he has a setback or isn't as strong as anticipated, you still have 4 days before DePaul and 11 days before Marquette, all the while giving yourself a better chance to beat Xavier (if CO can play and contribute). Big difference between that and 2 days before Xavier. Just a thought.

It's really hard to elevate the way Obekpa does on a gimpy ankle. I'm okay with other guys picking up the slack.

Obekpa played 24 minutes vs. Nova in game 1, had just 2 rebounds, but blocked 3 shots to go along with 4 pts and 0 assists.

Assuming he "can' play..
don't start him..see how we do underneath on the boards; get a sense of how our big men do with fouls.....
if we can board and we run up fouls, put him in for awhile.
If we keep it close with sound rebounding and no-one bigs in foul trouble...keep him out.

He was a totally different player back then on a totally different team.
Totally, for sure.

If I`m Lavin Obekpa doesn`t play. What if he aggravates and it`s much worse after? Then maybe he`s out until the B.E. Tourny.

Yeah big game tomorrow, but it`s only one game. We need him for the rest of the season as well.
Everyone will just have to step up that much more.
