Nyiwe

I hate to bring this up, but when he left Texas Tech wasn't the story that he was already considering going overseas. He didn't get any younger since then.

Nyiwe can be much more than he has shown,Questionis can this coach and staff work with him off season and produce a very good player

His game improved by leaps & bounds over the course of this year so no reason to think whoever worked with him this year on improving his game won't do the same next year. As others have pointed out both Nyiwe & Soriano improved from the start of the year to the finish and credit for that has to go the staff.

Nywie has potential . Thing is , he isn’t a instinctive experienced BB player .  He’s got weak hands and fumbles the ball a bit . But , he can dunk with authority and does grab some rebounds . He’s got a slight frame and does  get pushed around by the beefier Centers in the BE .

Which begs the question NCJ; with 2 returning all Big East players plus Wusu, and 3 players(Wheeler,
Soriano and Nyiwe) who developed quite a bit over the course of the season, and some other solid role players, how in God's name were we not even a bubble team??? On that one, blame has got to go to the staff

Monte, not sure it begs the question. I don't disagree that this year has been a miss for CMA. At the end of the day, they finished 7th and to me anything below 6th and a dance bid was a clear miss. But that doesn't mean staff shouldn't get credit for good things they did like developing the two bigs and fielding a team that played hard as hell in almost every game. I know it's easy to say we lost a lot of close games and while it's true we won some close ones, there were no close wins like the two losses to UCONN and last night that imho we really deserved to win. In any event, what I have seen with this team this year does give me hope for next year if we keep the core guys and is why I am not ready to say CMA is not the answer.

Isn't the answer in the question? The staff did a great job developing Nywie and Soriano, and I think Wheeler. The NCAA puts tremendous emphasis on OOC play and those guys were still not nearly what they became. Those games counted. So one of the staffs strengths is devalued within the system.

On the other hand Xaviers teams get worse and worse ever year as the season goes on. It doesn't matter anymore.

Developing players is a dangerous strength to have as a staff now because the wild emphasis on games early in the year means it doesn't help a team make a current tournament and then the developed player immediately transfers.

I'm left with a belief that you have to recruit, recruit, recruit (and that not only includes but I would emphasize the portal for recruiting) because all of your other work is pro bono for programs other than your own.
