NY Post Rick Pitino’s two month St. John’s overhaul

“Holy s–t, can this kid play,” Pitino said to himself.

After the workout, Pitino approached Ejiofor and his family:

“I’ve got to have you. I’m not letting you leave this visit [without committing],” he told them.

They laughed. Pitino emphasized to them that Ejiofor could play the 4, and would for him.

Have been in contact with a bunch of coaches these past few weeks and have gotten a bit more in-depth/detailed scouting report on this class...ill share it when I get a second but generally HIGHLY favorable with some very interesting information.
Well done by Zach Btw...congrats to him

For once we have a coach who we don’t have to worry about not playing the correct guys. That is really nice change for us.
From what I have read in some articles would not be surprised if starting lineup looks like this:
Soriano, Zuby, Luis, Alleyne, Dingle
Jenkins, Taylor and Dunlop 6-8 guys in rotation.
Differs from what most on here expect but I like.

IF it turns out that Zuby plays the ”4” that means we start with a Soriano/Zuby front court. That is size and skill we haven’t had around here in ages.

The interchangeable rest of the roster is exciting. Of course expecting big things from Dingle and the Jenkins/Taylor/ Luis trio. The comments about the guys being “able to shoot” is a “you had me at hello” moment for me. Shooting has been a major weakness here for YEARS. RP recognizes how much the game has changed and I am all here for him dragging us into the modern game. 3 point shooting and defense seems to be back on the menu. I know I am blathering but best I have felt about the Program in years.

Reads like Zuby is slotted at the starting 4. Imposing interior but not much "big" depth behind those two... gonna need to be conscious of foul trouble. Assume one of Soriano/Zuby will be part of the first substitutions...

Interesting section on Alleyne - his commitment was real quick- and understandable now. "Green light" / "major role" / "over-aggressive".... something a shooter (or anyone) would love to hear.

Dingle/Alleyne/ ? /Zuby/Joel....

Looking forward to hearing how practices are shaping up.

I thought along the same lines. I assume that Slaz (don’t make me spell it) and Traore come in. Traore is a project and is the in case of emergency break glass guy. Also, we can always go the “non traditional” route without a true 4. Hurts rebounding but hopefully we have enough “shooters” to make it work. Just a thought.
