Per Zach B;
St John's expecting big haul of visitors for Sunday at MSG against Villanova. Anyone asking if this is a good idea is getting muted. #

As noted previously, Jordan Tucker will be there as well.

OK, I'll bite, Zach.

It's a bad idea (and I'm not asking him that, I'm telling him that). Bringing our recruits to games is not the smartest thing right now. Let them watch practices, where they get a better idea of how Mullin runs things.

Call me old fashioned but I would give the recruits the Jesus Shuttleworth treatment first. Then they won't really care how bad we are.

I'm inclined to side with Slice & Matt on this. :)

Many of us, myself included, thought having recruits at the Syracuse game was a bad idea too ... and look how it turned out. Unlikely, but maybe lightning will strike twice.

It's clear based on the games they have chosen they want the garden as full as possible and ROCKING when they have recruits there. Even if we get blown out, you still have a crowd of 10,000+ and you sell them on them it being a sea of red and even more full when THEY lead st johns back to the promised land. And if we are competitive or even somehow win, its an unexpected cherry on top.

You cant just not invite recruits to ANY games. So invite them to the big ones.

I am starting to believe that Zach B posts regularly on here... Similar, Coach can do no wrong, polarized outlook on the program. Interesting.

It'll be good to showcase the garden, the locker rooms, and well, certainly nothing on the court, with the exception of "hey look there's immediate playing time available"

I was one of them. The fact that it worked against Cuse, only makes me double down on the chances that it won't on Sunday.

A better argument for this, is that Ahmed went to the Incarnate Word and NJIT games, yet still committed the following week. Of course, we already had a good relationship with him, but that would be the counterargument to my saying it's a bad idea.

You would think some players, parents, coaches take a broader view - not short sighted - which could help and - yes there is crappiness/losing-ness this year - but there's also NYC MSG top coaching staff (subject to discussion I realize) and as you post Chris7 "immediate playing time available". Does Vitale ever refer to " IPTA"
:)

It is what it is but not without possibilities (that "the few, the proud" are swayed to join the Storm)...we only need some recruits each year..."some" is doable and we already have some good ones for the Fall.

All the best
PS sure does seem that Mr. Ponds is boosting the recruiting process! Spreading the word. Good for him and good for us.

Yeah they want MSG as full as possible with mostly Villanova fans.
It will most likely be a 30+pnt spanking, and MSG will most like be rocking with Villanova fans. This is the worst game possible to bring them to.
I'm just hoping they know who we're already bringing in for next year, and they want to add to that real solid class.

On the plus side what highly rated recruit wouldn't watch our team and think "I can get major minutes if I come here?"

They may think that, but Diallo still chose to ride the pine at Kansas, instead of coming here (I can't include Briscoe, because he gets 30 minutes a night, even at Kentucky).

I'm told #sjubb assistant Barry Rohrssen on Long Island today for 6'9" frosh Aidan Igiehon today of Lawrence Woodmere Academy

Honestly, don't you realize competing against Kentucky or Kansas is a huge uphill battle, and what else could we have done there (or here). Keeping them away from a game? Not publishing the final score?

It was somewhat of a tounge-in-cheek response. Of course, we can't compete with those guys. That's why I actually encouraged Lavin to get out of the Briscoe recruitment a month before the announcement, I knew we had no shot. Had no problem with Mullin going after Diallo because he just needed to take what was avaliable.

As for Sunday, just don't get killed out there (ie, lose by 40), and it should be no harm, no foul. But, I still think, if Mullin wants to really sell his vision of the program to recruits, letting them come to practice is the best way to do that RIGHT NOW. The style we are playing in games, is not really going to be our style in future years.

Kids visiting practice sessions is part of the agenda. You really think our two prime recruiters don't know the value of that? Trust me they do. Schools in NJ, for example were offered group trips to SJU this fall. It is all part of the process building relationships with the kids as well as their coaches.

after we receive an astronomic beatdown on sunday the staff can say to the kids why would you want to play for Nova with all the good players they already have. Come here and get 40 minutes a game

Vegas has odds of Paultzman leaving 114 at halftime for this game at 2-1

Bet is off the board. I will be at Rico Hines residence filming.
