Nova Fans

I know this is totally anecdotal, so with that premise, here is my take on Nova Fans from today.

I bought a single ticket from a Nova fan, so I was in a Nova section, early on I complained about a St. John's player getting mugged underneath our basket with no call, the score at 3 minutes in was still close. Well, you would not believe the reaction, the Nova fans around me told me to "pipe down" impolitely.

So for the rest of the game they gave me the "business". And right up until a minute to go they loudly applauded all of their good moves and derided St. John's at every bad move by us. Believe me, that meant I was hearing it ALL game.

Nicely dressed, and I am sure well mannered otherwise. But obnoxious in a personal way toward me a St. John's fan.

When I heard them say they wanted to "double" our score, I almost lost it, but with us doing so little, I sat there and endured. Honestly, they didn't even want Wright to empty his bench when they were up by 35+, why I don't know. They seemed to have a problem with Mullin too.

I am sure there are thousands of Nova fans who would behave better; this was my experience today. The worst $125 dollars I ever gave to a Nova fan.

I hope 3-4 years from now they behave better when we are throttling them.

P.S. Over the years I have stuck up for Cuse fans, Uconn fans, even G-town fans and got a lot of flack on here, but compared to my experience today those fans were a lot nicer when they were kicking our butts. Last night after a really tough game, the G Town fans around me congratulated me on a "W". Just sayin'.

Mullin doesn't seem to be making many friends (see Fordham, Gtown, Providence to name a few). I know many of you say F everybody else you like the combative nature. Just be prepared to get everybody's best and for a program struggling to get some wins it will be that much harder with a bulls-eye on our back.

no offense but this is just BS. Fear is a liar. There is always a bullseye. Anyone that is worried about that is destined to lose and thinking that being friendly will make your life as a competitor any easier is nonsense.

I came home from the BET and realized why i just hate attending (besides losing ). Most of the attendees are men taking the day or afternoon off from work. Listening to them mist appear not to be core followers of the team and sayvstupid things all game.

In my section 115 there was a guy two rows in front who halfway through the national anthem bellowed at the top of his lungs "go st. Johns" no one cheered and an sju fan behind him told him to shut up. The guy paused 5 srconds then turned around and said F u. No way this guy was a tegular johnnies fan and this expensive tourney dtaws these types

Well it worked for us when Mo was pissed at the Fordham coach and our players admitted pointing toward that game and we blew them out. What has been BS is this program that struggles to beat the Sisters of the Poor. There is something to be said about quietly going about your business without making a spectacle of yourself when you haven't accomplished shiate.

Looie, made a career of "not putting a bullseye" on the Johnnies back.

Today you're a Peacock, tomorrow you're a feather duster.

On the other hand, what the heck did Mullin do to piss off the Nova fans, the only thing I can think of is when he was a player he owned them.

In '85 in the Semis if we matched up with Nova instead of Georgetown, we'd have been in the finals not the them, and maybe Memphis beats Ewing and Thompson Jr. and we win the whole thing. One can dream. The only team we had trouble with that year was g town, certainly not Nova or Memphis.

I like the approach of quietly going about your business but this is still nonsense. Fordham is always out for blood against St Johns. Worrying about what other teams or fans think and assuming that being nice makes it better is just nonsense. Mullin has been composed and respectful of other teams. Went out of his way to compliment G'town. But when he feels that he's been disrespected you are going to see the Brooklyn. That is how it is.

Mullin was extremely classy after the Georgetown "W"......., I wonder if it had been a loss?, like the III was classy even in defeat.

This program balked at the sideline antics of one FF and didn't want to hire other coaches because of their sideline behavior, none of which I agreed with. So I guess I am just not used to it being just fine with cursing out an opposing coach, lecturing another in your first year coaching anywhere, and running out onto the floor going ballistic all the while getting our brains beaten in on the scoreboard.

He probably worked in finance. Today was a national holiday for people in my business. Everyone was there

Was so angry after the game I didnt stick around for the 2nd and went with some friends over to American Whiskey on 30th and I knew literally 50 people inside from finance

Nova fans, band wagoners included, have become absolutely insufferable. Most obnoxious fan base I know. And what was with jay Wright not pulling starters today? I hate Villanova. Next Year we need revenge!

FF was a lunatic not just on the sidelines but in practices, to players, to assistant coaches and even to members of the friendly media. And in his case it was him and not the opposing coach who dissed the other coach by not shaking his hand.

And contrary to what you said, we won that game at Providence. Then afterwards and not during the game, he heard Cooley making comments and lost his cool. Also won the game with G'town where that incident occurred contrary to what you are saying.

Wasn't talking about those specific games in terms of losing. I'm referring to every BE loss being a blow out.

The Nova fans near me where to busy talking about great they were to watch the game.

I have lots of friends and family who are fantastic Nova fans. They are not obnoxious at all.

Let's face it, the school is great, they have a lot to be proud of. The criticism, if you call it that, of which I've heard is the wine and cheese fans applaud with the golfer's clap and aren't boisterous enough. I've heard that criticism of our fan base too.

In hindsight, I was so unhappy at yesterday's game, I overdid the criticism of the Villanova fans around me, using one episode and extrapolating is never a good thing, right Donald?
