As per Quinn Rochford tweet: Former St John's head coach Norm Roberts is leaving Florida to rejoin Bill Self in Kansas as part of the Jayhawks staff, per ESPN

ESPN reporting that Norm is leaving Florida to become an assistant once again at Kansas. I know, who cares?

You know he was highly regarded when he came out of Bill Self's team. He obviously didn't pan out as a head coach but I wish him the best of luck back where he knew success before. I have no bitter feelings about Norm. I think what happened with him leaving should have happened earlier but that's water under the bridge. Good luck Norm.

I'd love to get realfan's take on this. Is he banned here? I guess I have to visit bigeastboards. Have they closed up shop yet?

I, too, wish Norm good luck. Met with him a number of times, and he's a genuinely good guy.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who was wondering how long it would take for FranWho? to show his superhuman grasp of the obvious with a suitably infantile statement. If you had 6 hours and 37 minutes you're a winner.

from manning to norm. There goes big man development at Kansas. Norm should stay and be his lifelong bench buddy. Stills makes plenty of money with little pressure

You're right, he was awesome.

Assistant Coach Roberts...not Coach Roberts. I am not ready to forgive nor forget the horrible performance he had here for more than half of a decade. His presence lingered this past season as Lav scrambled to replace 9 seniors. At least we are finally rid of any of his players.

wow you dont' think that is kind of harsh - the players comments at least, as I agree Norm should have been gone after year 3. I know that many of the kids who played on the 2010-2011 team would not have been reruited by this staff but theirsenior year was extremely exciting. DJ Kennedy would have gotten minutes on this team, as would Dwight Hardy. If you want to raz/haze/torch Roberts that's one thing but why disparage the players.

I went from Norm Roberts apologist to apoplectic when I learned that 6-10, 240 lb. Kyle O'Quinn played high school ball four miles from the St John's campus. That just infuriates me.

O'Quinn averaged 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks as a senior… was a first-team All-Queens and third-team All-Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) selection… led Campus Magnet to a 24-5 record, the divisional championship and the quarterfinals of the city tournament.

His high school coach called St John's to take a look at the kid and no one followed up.

In Norm's short-sighted vision he viewed Phil Wait (Manchester, England) and Dele Coker (Nigeria), as having higher ceilings than a kid in his own backyard!

RE-FIRE NORM!!!

It's really Mike Jarvis that nearly destroyed the program. We really needed a proven coach and a staff that had a track record of sending players to the pros. Like the staff we have now. That's the only way program could have recovered from the fraud that Mike Jarvis perpetrated on St. John's. Norm Roberts had no shot at success here

Do we really need to keep beating these dead horses, Norm and jarvi? Although in jarvi's case its more like beating a dead ass ( the four legged kind of course).

So I ask you all, should we be surprised he has reading comprehension issues as well?

+ infinity

We ALL know Norm was an abject failure as the coach of St Johns. But it was not his fault he was hired and it was not his fault he was kept on longer than he should have. That's on the administration.

That said Norm slowed a bit of the bleeding Jarvis caused and was a decent man who tried his best at something he was clearly not cut out for. Some of you just need to get over it or focus your irrational continuing anger issues at the folks who were really to blame for the program reaching such lows and not recovering as quickly as it should have. Jarvis for bringing the program down and the administration and athletic department for making the wrong hire and then being unwilling to admit its mistakes until it was almost too late. Step one would be to just not say anything when a few guys want to pass on kind words to Norm. No one in this thread made any mention of him doing a good job nor wishing he was still here, just wishing him luck in future endeavors. After that, as usual, woodwork squeaks . . . (Was,not Was fans will know what I'm talking about).
