NIT

Based on the link below our beloved SJU Mens basketball team is a 7 seed in the NIT.

Please note the bracketology has a disclaimer that states the 7/8 seeds are usually from a lower conference eg MAAC or NEC who win their regular season conference title but fail to win their conference tournament and are therefore automatic NIT qualifiers. Not looking good at this point.

It's looking better than it did two games ago.

We should accept any invitation to anything...we are nobody to say "no thanks" anymore.

Saying nyet to the first NIT invite cost us the second NIT invite, possibly hosting a game. For guys coming back next year, the post season experience is good, even NIT.

I apologize, but I am ambivalent about the NIT. Yes, of course I will cheer if the team gets in, but overall it would be a letdown after our preseason hopes.

At this point I think we are just starved from watching a selection show with the hopes of seeing “St. John’s” appear on a bracket, other than the Wednesday BE Tournament.

remember back in the day or well now that any team that is not a his team makes the NIT and we are just barely making it now. Let'ss get the fire anderson chants and signs going from here on in. Cragg is listening basedonn his comments past 2 weeks. I love when people he is such a great guy, well great guysdon'tt need that said about them honestly its an ego thing. At least withMullinn here we had st. jean running the games. with lavin we hadDunlapp. withAndersonn, well he doesn't allow hisassistants to game plan. There was a post somewhere that stated his assistants wanted to change the game plan he refused to listen.

Got a question about the NIT. Will it exist if the NCAA expands to 96? Sounds like it is just absorbing the NIT field into the NCAA. NCAA already owns both. 32 play in games Monday Tuesday maybe? Dayton might lose out as they have four games at each first weekend venue top avoid too much traveling? Haven't heard much discussion about how 96 would be structured so just thinking out loud.

I believe outside of the 2021 season, no team has declined an NIT invite in ~15 years. Wouldn't even be a question this time, last year Virginia, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, etc. were all in it.

Oh, also Xavier won the NIT, fired their coach, and now are on the Sweet 16 selection show. Let's hope St. John's follows that model.

Yeah I’m really hoping we’re gonna follow the Xavier model and not the Pitt one.

We don't stand a chance of making the NIT without a big run in the BE tournament that still leaves us out of the NCAA. SH and 'Nova might stand a chance of getting into the NIT.

Is that in reference to the Pitt strip club scandal? Apparently it's in Las Vegas this year so a scandal wouldn't shock me haha...

Personally I wouldn't get too excited for the NIT and I doubt the team would either (well below our pre-season expectations), but as long as it wouldn't extend Anderson (doubtful) then I'd take it. Just want some Johnnies basketball to watch in March and I genuinely think a lot of Johnnies fans would get into it just because we've been so down.

First we need to actually get in, though. Pathetic we're on the NIT bubble. I think we need at least one more big (Q1/Q2) win along with another 2-3 wins between now and the BET.

Hahah no I was thinking Xavier model as in fire coach last year even with an nit championship in year 4. Opposed to the Pitt model which was letting Capel stick around even even after a couple worse years than CMA and seeing his success this year.

I expect Hall to be only Big East team in
NIT with 5 teams in NCAA. St. John’s and Nova on the outside looking in.

The minimum standard I felt coming in for CMA to keep his job after last season was to make the NIT this year.

If he fails to do that again, looks like he probably will.

How can Mike Cragg justify to the fan base bringing him back ?

Maybe someone in the CMA camp that posts on here can logically explain to the rest of us why CMA needs to be retained if he fails to meet the minimum NIT requirement?
