NIT

Wow, if we lose to Marquette we will be 2-9 in our last 11 games, yet Lavin likes the direction of this young team? It's a good thing we were loaded up with cup cakes early on as the NIT seems to only consider overall record or will use any reason to get a team in that can potentially fill some seats. But honestly, if the NIT was a legit tourney, no way we would be selected for our dismal season ending performance. The very sound of 2-9 is quite disheartening.

Obviously,2-9 isn't good over nearly a third of the season. The team is not deserving of a post season bid, IMHO.

Plus, it's very possible we could lose(embarrass) ourselves even more by losing to some Mid Major Runner up or Conf Champion.

No, I think Lavin should put the balls away after the BE Tourney and begin to plan for next season. He has a lot of work to do..

If invited to the NIT they should go. The more gsmes they play together the better they will get.

ok, enough with the negativity, what if we actually win the whole dam thing? granted its not the NCAA tournament, but if we win the NIT championship, its hardware, its something.

you guys are too negative and too harsh, hows that ulcer medication treating you?

I don't think it's being negative.. Probably more like realistic.. This team would not win the NIT, period the end.

Our team is on the threshold of self destruction, if things don't change... Prolonging it, means more room to see more bad things happen.

I would say however, if the team is invited, no sure thing,it should go. The NIT has been very kind to SJU over the years and we should not decline a invite. I'm thinking a bid is not forthcoming though.

I admire others' optimism but, it's a little late in the season

I don't think the NCAA, which owns the NIT tournament, looks favorably upon teams that decline an invitation. If we get an invite, we will go.

That is your opinion. There is nothing that is realistic about what you said. Logically, we may not win it. But it's not realistic that we won't win it.

Things haven't been looking too good of late, but you're reaching. If today is any indication, then I think they are far from self destruction.

I believe we'll still have a bid extended towards us.

It beats pessimism. ;)

Why we shouldn't be selected, Linda? A real fan wouldn't say such a thing, as they want their team to continue playing, if they are invited.

Team played spirited jesterday in a tough loss. Sadly they will likely lose to Villanova in the first round. And, while it is possible for them to beat Villanova the chances are not likely. I would expect them to play hard but lose by 7-10 points. If that happens season would likely be over for the Lavin led Johnnies. It has certainly been a very tough last month for the coach, staff, team and us. AndMy unfortunately fou all involved I don't expect a change in fortune.

I expect Villanova to be ready for this matchup and I think this particular matchup for us will be tough- not being negative, but rather realistic.

Go johnnies!

I think this is one of the more winnable BE games

Actually, Villanova is one of the more beatable teams due to their inconsistency, from their frosh ( Arcidiocono) leadership. I think that now that the kids have had a chance to play without Harrison and with a motivated Pointer returning to the line up, there is a chance here for a win. Nova has ad some big wins this season but thy are not at a level of a GTown, Marquette or Louisville. Look for a St. Johns win in ths one.

And where did I say I wouldn't want us to be selected. I was just pointing out that the motivation of the NIT selection committee may be more for monetary reasons then for rewarding a team for success. While as a fan, I certainly don't want the season to end, it seems that any team that finishes with 2 wins in our last 8 to 10 games is certainly not worthy of an invite.

But hey , I know your game. You are trying to be antagonistic by calling me Linda but I will not engage in your garbage.

You're right.... You didn't say, you didn't want them to be selected. You just stated they shouldn't be selected. Frankly, I believe if they are selected, then they've earned that right. If they aren't selected, then they must've not done enough per the NIT selection committee.

It's cool.... I know exactly who you are, contrary to what you believe.

I think if they finish over .500 (which they will) they should go to the NIT becasue they desertve to go (with a near .500 record in the BE) and it makes sense for the NIT to want them in, hoping they can make a run to the Garden. The extra games can't hurt our guys either.

I agree in general - plus despite our recent losses - I believe we did give Providence a run on their court and of course the Marquette game. We are capable - and one would think the coaches and the players really want this one at MSG!

all the best

PS by the way I see Harrison's suspension as a mixed thing - if I recall correctly he was not shooting well for a month - soe it's not like we miss his (poor) shooting. I like the fact Jones got playing time and hope it continues.
