New York Mets 2025 Season

Will be interesting to see how we do in Boston, don’t think we played well this weekend at all. Even the win yesterday we kinda had to just scratch it out

The schedule is interesting. 9 games coming up soon against Rockies/White Sox, so a lot of opportunities for wins

But also play the dodgers 7 times in that stretch too

Also despite the Alvarado suspension, Philly fans I talk to are really starting to feel themselves. They had a prospect start his first game today and apparently he was great. Obviously we will have our hands full to win the division, which is my goal for this team
 
Soto had one hit the whole series and dare I say he appeared somewhat intimated from all the booing and jeering IMO. He is a great player and will be great for the Mets but expected more from him this series.
 
The baseball season is a long and winding road of ups and downs. Relax. Remember when we “buried” the Fillies? Now they are but a 1/2 game back.The Braves are just 5 games back. This is not to make everyone nervous. In fact, quite the opposite. We still have over 100 games left. They aren’t handing rings and putting up banners tomorrow. They’ll be playing another game in Boston.

And as of this morning we are tied with the Dodgers for the second best record in baseball and the best in the NL. Lots of baseball to be played and likely close all season. Hopefully we will be playing our best baseball at the end of the season like last year. The way the playoffs are structured now you need to get in and anything can happen.

He has that look about him, a guy who just got paid big big money and is kind of resting on his laurels. Not hustling on that grounder to second last night late in the game was a bad look

I feel like the closest comparison I have in my mind is when Bryce Harper signed his big deal with Philly. His first season there was shaky for the first couple months, he didn’t really have his “welcome to the team” moment until August when he hit a walk off grand slam against the cubs. I think with Soto he will obviously get there eventually
 
The defense is my only true, overarching concern. Vientos has no track record of being an okay defender -- in the minors or majors. Soto has been uninspiring, to say the least. I think Stearns put Mendoza in an impossible roster management spot. We have: Winker -- who is on the IL conveniently but can't play much OF, Marte -- Soto's best buddy on the team but also can't play much OF (or hit), Vientos, and even Nimmo, who can use some of the half-days off. Its tricky, and may have to result in tough decisions in July.

The hitting with RISP seems particularly flukey. I think we will eventually go on a tear and the numbers even out. I'd prefer to have the flukey non-hits now, instead of later.

Bullpens are notoriously hot and cold. Minter loss hurts. Buttressing the lefties with Raley a couple of months ago may pay more dividends than anyone expects down the line, but I am sure we'll figure out what to do.

He's never been a huge hustle guy. Everyone is overreacting. We are six weeks into year 1 with him. When the dust settles on the season, he will have a .400 OBP, 35 homers, and 100 RBI.

At some point we are going to have to hit Vientos second and Soto third. Then he will feel the need to swing the bat more. Protect the kid and lengthen the lineup.

I am happy you also questioned Judge's double because I also thought that seemed catchable, but they never showed how he tracked the ball. I don't know if it was lack of hustle, him misjudging a fly ball, etc. But it seemed that if we had a more fleet of foot OF'er, that should've been a catch.

The Mets gave him that contract for what he does at the plate, bottom line. I watched a large chunk of Yankee games last year and he is what he is, a below average outfielder. And that below average outfielding was playing a very small RF at Yankee Stadium. Be that as it may, the guy is an all time hitter and I am betting he will have his numbers when the season ends.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't carry us for a month or two before the season ends, and is huge in October. Probably the last guy I'm worried about, and once I looked at the advanced numbers, I'm probably as frustrated as he is. lol.

To his credit, he does seem to run the bases hard once he's on them. I think these questions were all built into his offer. He seems like he's going to be a heavy, slowish guy that just mashes and gets on base at a bizarre clip from ages 29 to 36. He'll be a DH in short order.

I really don't want him legging out singles or diving into the stands to be completely honest. He's far too valuable and everyone on the team should realize that. If I was Mendoza I would communicate that to him and tell everyone else individually that is my mandate.

I think we might try Baty at 3B with Vientos spending some time at DH. Baty is far superior on defense. Of course, he will need to hit a bit. Mendoza has already done that a couple of times. We should be phasing Marte out. He seems washed and frankly disinterested. I think he wants to play a position but that is not happening here. A career killer for him. Vientos seems a little entitled. He’s shown signs hitting but fielding he is terrible. Mendoza sat him a couple of times. I took that as him trying to shake some lethargy on his part. He needs to get it going.

I agree about legging out ground balls BUT the one he didnt run was fumbled by DJ --we had men on base --no excuse Watch Nimmo/Lindor when there is a chance they run hard ---he never does !
