2* kid on some sites not even ranked from what I see...perfect for Maris...errr St. John's! Man our recruiting is horrid. Let's pray we make the tourney so we have even an outside chance with real recruits again.

I can't knock this kid because I have never seen him play but if we are looking for guards for 2019 then why didn't we just look in our backyard and recruit a kid like Joe Toussaint from Hayes ( he committed to Iowa already) or a number of guards locally who can really play? Charles Manning JR is a local kid who went Juco who just pledged to LSU and he can really go . Hopefully this young man Mack can play :)

You have to visit your backyard to know the landscape.

Agree Happy, Toussaint is very solid & btw JPM114 is a big fan as well. Puzzled why they did not give him a look. He’s well coached at Cardinal Hayes HS. Oh well.

I have to admit as someone who wanted Lavin fired I'm now realizing I took his recruiting even at rock bottom for granted. Lavin's worst year recruiting is comparable to Mullin's best. That's scary. As we all know it's not only about winning, because terrible teams like DePaul are getting top 100 4 star kids. It's about effort and other coaches like Hurley are laughing at us. Easy work for him snatching our local kids. Being a college basketball head coach in a major conference is not a no-show job. It's very important and requires 24/7 effort. It's like we have a part time substitute teacher instead of a full-time permanent one. By the way, I was not exaggerating with this kid being a 2 star according to some and Marist recruits at that level. Not knocking the kid, but we are clearly going several levels lower just to find kids who want to play here from HS.

This kid is not coming from high school. He was home schooled. Apparently he has issues as his current stop is his 3rd after getting his diploma.
As Happy pointed out we have kids from the greater NY area that we could be putting effort into but Mullin has Matt focusing on malcontents on the west side of the Mississippi.
Who knows the motive here. Perhaps Mullin gets to visit the kid and slips in a visit home in Cali like he did with Jordan Brown.

I am hoping Tyrese Williams who graduated from Hayes last year and is playing at Quinnipiac next season has a good year. Met his dad at the CHSAA finals at Fordham. Really nice guy. And as we recruit Quinnipiac transfers who knows.

I have no problem with the Mack kid. He’s talented and has 3 years eligibility. He looks like he can really play, and we will lose guards this season.

Hate to bring the kid up, but what about DaShawn Davis?!?
He's a 3*, but guess we passed on him.
Ah fuhgeddaboudit, according to 247, he's a 100% Lock for the Hall anyway.

I'd really love to be a fly on the wall to see how much effort is truly put into recruiting with this staff (sans Matt of course) vs. other major programs. Just seems it's not happening.

I am confused here. Cameron Mack played only once for 4 minutes for Stephen F. Austin last season. Was he hurt? Was he suspended or academically ineligible? Was he just not good enough to get floor time? Are we really recruiting him or is this just a suggestion by someone that we get involved with him? Can any of this be clarified by anybody here?

That all said, this video (see below) that I found of him looked impressive. He seems really quick, with a very good handle and looked like he can both penetrate and dish effectively.

Don't know much about him Ghost, but apparently he was a 3* by some accounts in HS, the Stephen Austin coach waxed gloriously on the kid when he got him, but Mack barely played., and we hear he's at his 3rd 'program'.
Maybe, we're just trying to get even with Chris Mack...?!?
Joking.

Yeah...

The whole thing with transfers is they seem to take significantly less effort. That is not directed towards Matt, because I think he has done an amazing job, but rather the rest of the staff.

This approach is getting concerning when our 2019 class is empty and we're targeting 2/3* transfers who haven't played more than 4 minutes of D1 ball. Massive difference between him and Simon/Clark/Heron/Dixon/etc.

I love getting Heron for this year, but he's a once in a blue moon transfer. The model is not sustainable.

Staff really needs to start going all out for some of these borderline 3/4* players. Not just for a few weeks/months (like with transfers), but for a few years.

Put some damn effort in...

Re Cameron Mack. Seems he's a 'project' in a couple ways. He left SFA for Hutchinson Community then went to Salt Lake City CC.
FWIW 247 had him #236 ranked and a 3 * out of HS.
I have no clue and am open to the kid.
Just hope we know what we're doing.[/quote]
Figueroa connection it appears
