Need your help from the archives SJU vs Niagara 12/22/93

I need a Christmas miracle! I played at St Johns in the 1993-94 season as a walk on and I scored 1 point on Dec 22, 1993. Unfortunately that game was not broadcast on MSG or ESPN but it was on Channel 10/55 on Long Island. I realize it is a long shot but did anyone tape that game by chance? We played Niagara. I will be willing to pay. Please contact me if you do have the game because it was the only point I scored that season. I’ve exhausted all other avenues. Thank you!!!

...... speaking about Niagara University, I wish StJohn’s would restart the home and home series with Niagara.

Billy,

As an aside, I just want to thank you. Last year, when you were signing (and selling) books at a home game, I bought one. Unfortunately, I left it at the concession stand at halftime. Of course, someone snatched it up right away.

After the game, I told you this out in the lobby, and said I was willing to pay for another one, but you let me have it free of charge. You didn't have to do that, and I just wanted to thank you for your generosity.

The book was a great read, BTW.

I hope you find it Billy.

I was a freshman that year and remember being at a few games at Alumni and remember you getting in game and taking a half court shot at buzzer and almost making it. I recall it was against one of the local area teams, maybe against Hofstra. Columbia or Fordham?

Either way, good luck on the search and thanks for your time w/ the program.

You have a great memory! It was Columbia and I was so nervous- I didn't know what to do so I just shot every time I got the ball. I took a lot of shots and missed!!! HAHAHA!
I appreciate the help.

Love it, as my great friend, Jerry Paradiso used to say in coaching clinics, learn what a good shot is (and it differs player to player), then fire every time you get one, “Never up, never in”!!!!

I am sure you busted your butt in practice. You earned every shot you could get and I am glad you scored a point. What a great memory. Have to read your book. Good luck finding the game tape.

I will be redundant here but as both a former Stanner and Redman, I loved your book.,,,,especially the sections on Molloy and Curran.

Billy,

The McLaughlin boys in your book are my first cousins. I'm a couple of years older Jack McLaughlin and their sister Mary-Gwen were my age group. I had the same experience when I played at St. Anthony's. We were down 30 to Billy Donovan and company and I finally got in. I shot every time i saw the ball and scored 6 points in 2 minutes. Wound up tying for game high honors on our side. Can't wait to read your book since it includes family and my Redmen.

Thank you so much and the McLaughlin's are very special to me. Sad to hear about Mary Gwen- she was my babysitter in the late 70's. I'm still in touch with Neil, Tom, and Kevin...great people!
I appreciate the message about your experience with Coach Alfieri. He called me to congratulate me about my book.

My son won a halftime shooting contest around that time. It was a pre-season exhibition and thus, not televised. I was able to get a copy of that game by sending a letter to a nun who was in charge of communications (I think). Sorry, but I don't remember her name. My point is that St. John's has a video copy of every game, whether televised or not. Good luck getting a copy. By the way, my son's was a Saturn halftime contest where he had to make a layup, free throw, 3 pointer and half-court shot. He made all within the allotted time so everyone thought he won the car. But they didn't give him the car because the half-court shot was made on his 2nd attempt. Big thrill for him to hear the crowd go nuts, though, We do have it on video thanks to the nun. I think they felt a little guilty.

As Tom Waits said “The large print giveth and the small print taketh away”

Wow! Good for your son! That has to be so cool.
Do u still have the video? I could make a copy and send back to you if you don't mind. I will pay for all shipping and costs. Let me know and thanks.
