NCAA Transfer Rules ProposedChanges

I had a Theology class where Mel Davis showed up Day 1 and never again. When grades were posted, everyone had a grade, no incompletes, etc. But I was OK with it.
Father “B Plus” Russell was well known Theology Prof to my hoops friends & players for obvious reason. I followed their choices closely.

Mel was easy to find; he was in Marilac cafe. I remember his beige caddy. Huge car.

Can do you guys one better. Had what I remember as a Public Relations class taught by professor Healy. A player (who shall remain nameless) on our hoops team sat next to me in class on day one of the semester and never appeared again until the day of the final exam and he copied off of me during the test. He received an A in the class while I got a C.

From the other side. I had an economics class and sat next to Ron Rowan and I was struggling. I was in a study group with him and he helped instruct me and all of a sudden it all cliched. I aced the class in the second semester and got an A on the final. The professor promised that if you got an A on the final, you’d be an A as a grade and that‘s what I received as did Rowan but he was getting them all semester.

I had several classes with Mike Moses who also was a serious student.

So for you, Rowan’s most memorable moment at SJU was not the game winning jumper in the 1986 BE Finals, but rather being your economic’s tutor. 😀

:D:D:D

Never thought of that. That is a tough one.

While leaving that game after the wild celebration at the end, we overheard a SU fan say “Well, they only lead once in the game” at which on of my buddies retorted “Yeah at the only time it really counts, at the end!!!!”

Later at Runyons on 2nd Avenue, a Nova fan came up to us and congratulated us for “beating the heathen snowmen from the north” which is what one of my buddies calls SU to this day.

Love the reference to Runyon's--it was a great place to go, especially after a BE tournament game. There was a who's who of college BB there.

Owner of Runyon's, Joe Healy, passed about two years ago down in Palm Beach Gardens. Ran a NY Giants Golf Tourney down here with quite a few retired Giants playing as well as the honoree. Many "regulars" from Runyon's were on hand yearly. CBS Sports upper echelon and Raff were always around. Many stories made the rounds at the Sunday night dinner and Monday awards luncheon. Joe was a huge Giants & Yankees fan. Problem was he went to Nova.

Richie Mannion, a friend from my Bronx neighborhood, was the bartender there for years. He was a character and sports junkie. He too passed away several years ago as I recall.

Absolutely. Many great stories and good times were shared there. I really miss that place.
