NCAA T Officially Cancelled

Crazy how drastically 24 hours can change things, yesterday after that Georgetown win I was thinking they could possibly do something special in Big East tournament, worst case scenario the would still make an NIT and possible run there. Now everything is cancelled. These next couple of months without sports are going to be brutal. This is uncharted territory.

Im heading to my sons middle school hoops game right now. And am very thankful palm beach county has not cowered in fear and will let this kids play.

I am expecting a great competitive game just like st johns/creighton was.

Not so at all. The media is reporting what states and countries are doing to battle this virus. I want to know what's happening, as depressing as it may sound. Reporting what is happening is not fear mongering. What would you want, no news at all?

Once Duke and Kansas announced that they were cancelling all upcoming athletic events, the writing was on the wall to cancel the men's basketball tournament regardless of anyone's individual position on the matter..

Dayton will never again in our lifetimes be this well positioned to win it all. That sucks so hard for them.

Excellent point.

I feel so bad for those Puke one and doners will not get to experience the Tournament. NOT.

Someday soon, we need a heroic figure to rise out of the mud, reject party affiliation, and unite the good people of this country for a common good. It is wishful thinking for certain.

Arguing here or anywhere else about partisan politics serves zero purpose and only inflames.[/quote]

I see no other man more well equipped to handle this situation....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Brilliant.

Now the he doesnt have to carry the entire st johns team to the Big East crown, he now has time to eradicate the corona virus. Go get em Duke!

Would it have been completely irresponsible for the NCAA to;
1 cancel the league tournaments
2 have the selection show as scheduled
3 with the option of delaying March madness , schedule games with matchups between teams within a three hour bus ride at any arena in the US No fans allowed. Strictly TV. Ex Hofstra vs Seton Hall at CA. No airplane travel and only players and coaches on the buses.
As you got to the elite eight scheduling could get difficult but I think the players would be agreeable and by the time the elite eight is played maybe the hysteria will have died down. Getting Kansas and Duke to agree could be insurmountable but I would have liked to have seen some thought to play the games.

Just saw that an NCAA VP said a 16 team, 4 day tournament was considered in place of March Madness, where 8 or 9 conferences would be represented.

Probably their idea of a pilot test like they use NIT to test new rules.

All about the $.

The last thing I want to do is defend the NCAA because they are as corrupt an organization as there is in this country, but they do run a business and as such, I'd have expected them to consider all options in under these unique and extreme circumstances.

To their credit, at least they didn't actually try to pull it off.

Mark Cuban was quoted in the press as saying that the NBA owners had insurance protecting them from loss in from the league’s shutdown.

It would be interesting to know if the NCAA has similar insurance to protect its lost Tournament revenue.
