NCAA North Carolina Investigation Update

“It has obviously been a long, drawn out process,’’ Emmert said. “It took the university a long time to gather the facts on their end."

“They wanted that opportunity and everyone was pleased to give them that opportunity, or willing to give them that opportunity. And it’s actually been moving forward well and in a cooperative collaborate fashion like these things are supposed to.’’

That has to be some sort of joke, right? Maybe an early April fools joke?

... from the article:
"The academic improprieties took place between 1993 and 2011 and involved athletes from numerous sports, according to an investigation conducted by a former U.S. Justice Department official."

My guess is that the NCAA will clear the UNC football and basketball teams because of no intent to break the regulations was found but the NCAA will flex its muscle and come down hard on the UNC women's tennis and rowing teams.

If there is undeniable proof of violations involving the basketball and football programs the NCAA will have to resort to a not guilty verdict because of the statue of limitations.

Yes Otis
Or pistol and squash teams.

I advise you seek medical attention after first notifying the Guinness Book of World Records.

There are just some teams that can't be touched. That's just an NCAA fact. NC will be sanctioned but nobody will ever know it nor will it substantially effect their program's performance.
If it was St. Francis of Loretto, just to pick someone at random, it would be the death penalty for institutional complicity over a decade to avoid the following the rules.
No penalties are ever handed out that will effect the "product" they sell in any real way.

The cynical side of my personality has a feeling the outcome will turn out to be like the old joke:

"The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky it's going to give Cleveland State two more years probation."

Roy Williams on academic issues: "We know men's basketball had nothing to do with it, and we're very proud of that."

Laughable.

University admitted the scandel benefitted athletes and non-athletes. In the end, there is no doubt that passing grades for courses that did not exist assisted in maintaining eligibilty for at least some men's basketball players. One (Rashard McCant) has already said as much.

Th following is a quote from a 2014 ESPN article:

McCants told "Outside the Lines" that he could have been academically ineligible to play during the championship season had he not been provided the assistance. Further, he said head basketball coach Roy Williams knew about the "paper class" system at UNC. The so-called paper classes didn't require students to go to class; rather, students were required to submit only one term paper to receive a grade.

Listening to the media lovefest with the ACC the last several days is disheartening. No mention that one coach is basically being accused of being a pimp, another basically insulted a player on the handshake line, and then basically called the player a lier before a tape came public. Their two teams in the final four include one which had their head coach on suspension, and the other should be on suspension ( if not in prision: read McCants quotes). Oh and by the way not one of these coaches has been , or probably will be fired. Gotta love the ACC (Sarcasm).

Ah the National Communist Athletic Association will suddenly lose all inertia to take action, the old "move along, nothing to see here".

If this was St John's we'd have been in year two of a death sentence. Investigators would be combing the campus and the nearest jewelry store trying to find out how Ron...oh wait a minute...

That is why I never blame calls for my team losing because when someone else does it, it just sounds like sour grapes. You have 40 minutes, go out and win the game. (Except last pay of game when replacement official awarded Seattle Seahawks a TD instead of Green Bay an interception which lead to the regular officials coming back the next week a few years ago. That official I wanted to kill! :) )

Donnie Tyndall was just given a 10 year show cause order for violations that happened while he was at Southern Mississippi for two years. It states that he acted unethically and failed to foster an order of compliance by allowing his staff to participate in academic fraud.
Can't wait to see what happens to Roy for the 18 years of bullshit classes at North Carolina. If stringent penalties are not rendered, Tyndall should sue the NCAA.
On another note, Boeheim allowed all kind of academic indiscretions, did not follow the schools substance abuse policy, and publicly accused the young men involved with Bernie Fine of lying, and got a 10 game suspension, SMFH. Lastly, Slick Rick was clueless to the debauchery taking place in Minardi Hall.
This is going to be one interesting off season.

When it comes to NCAA consequences for Roy Williams and UNC, prepare for the outrageous. #SlapOnTheWrist
