NBA Free Agency

Once KD hurt I was fine with the Knicks not giving him the max and I was leery of Irving for various reasons even though he is an excellent player and talent. If KD hadn't gotten hurt I'd be far more upset by this. I'm good with a smart rebuild through young players; it makes no sense to offer max money to the Butler's or Harris of the world. Randle is a good guy for where the Knicks are and I wouldn't mind D'lo Russell either.

The Knicks are shambolic. Their owner is a POS who promised to fans they would hit it big this summer. They struck out once again and some fans are OK with it!? To say this is anything other than a major failure is a gross misconception only attributable to years and years of torment and terrible mismanagement.

Knicks just signed Bobby Portis, former player for Mike Anderson’s razorbacks, to a 2 year contract. It certainly can’t hurt that a former player for iron Mike is playing locally for the Knicks now, when mike is on the recruiting trail.

Can only work to our benefit. Would be great if Portis is at SJU when some of the big men we are recruiting come over for a visit or to attend a game. Portis was a kid who did very well under CMA.

It's good.
But unfortunately the Nets activity caused Demarre Carroll to leave the Nets and sign with the Spurs

True. Would have been nice if both were around next few years.

Most celebrated recruit that Anderson signed as HC.

So far the Knicks have signed

Randle 3 for 63
Portis 2 for 31
Gibson 2 for 20
Bullock 2 for 20

Randle really a 2 year deal as well with team option on the 3rd. I really don’t hate any of them in this Salary era. Like Randle especially. Would have went after D. Russel.

Bullock 2 for 20
The Portis and Bullock signings make 0 sense, IMO. On the face of it, the other two don't either, but after striking out completely, the Knicks were so far under the salary floor, that the money had to go somewhere, so I'll live with those.

I don’t think Portis has yet hit his ceiling. Lots on untapped potential there.

Portis was 14 & 8 as a 24 year old. Can play 4 & 5 and can hit the 3. Plus I’m convincing myself it will have a good effect on SJU.

I would assume they are playing the expiring contracts trade asset game, no? Not really sure how that works, but that's what I would think, given three of the guys have 2 year deals.

Next years FA's are ehhhhhh, 2021 is a big year.

For those wondering what the Knicks are attempting, the 2021 free agency is loaded and I mean loaded.

Here’s a look at it — https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/2021/

Signing guys to exclusively 2 year deals for the most part, will allow the Knicks to have a ton of space to try and make a move then. But it didn’t work out this year I don’t know why it’d work out in 2021.

The Knicks best chance now is Barrett, Knox, Robinson, Trier, Dotson, Dennis Smith, etc.

If these guys can grow up and become really good players and pieces in the next two years, it could entice a big time free agent to look at the team and see he can win here.

Also side note... I know a lot of you live in NYC. If you are knicks fans, please don’t switch sides these next couple years when the nets are good. My one friend at school is a nets fan and he’s spewing all this BS about the Nets taking over the city. I don’t wanna see anything like that happen. Stay with the knicks, it’s gotta pay off someday

I think there’s a good chance the nets are worse This year than they were last year.
I think there’s a good chance the nets are worse This year than they were last year.
absolutely agree. They get Kyrie but lose Russell and Durant isn’t playing this year. Maybe a little better but I don’t think they are going to be great

I'm not in NYC anymore Jack, but I don't think you have to worry too much about old time die-hard Knicks fans jumping to the Nets. It's the casual fans and the younger fans whose allegiance is more subject to change and could switch should Nets kill it two years from now when Durant returns. I've never hated the Nets and would root for them in playoffs if they are in and Knicks aren't (much like I've rooted for Hornets in that situation since we moved down here) but no NBA team will ever displace the Knicks place in my heart no matter how many times Knicks break it...

Woj saying

Miami is finalizing a trade to send center Hassan Whiteside to Portland for Mo Harkless and Meyers Leonard, league sources tell ESPN.
