Myles Stewart gone

My lasting impression of him was in the garbage time against Villanova at home with a minute or so to go, he hit a 3 and flaunted by throwing up the 3 point signal like he had just put us in the lead

There are so many low-to-mid-major teams in California that I'm surprised he was never offered a schollie despite playing for a SoCal powerhouse.

Good luck to the kid. Did relatively well as a walk on, but likely will get more out of the game at a lower level.

lol i had already headed for the bar at that point

As with Sammy B Thompkins this was the right move again.
We are St. John's and if we dream of getting back to where we once were it will not be by having a team full of marginal players.
I wish the kid the very best but he never was and never should have been on our roster.
We just dismissed a coach who won 21 games and took us to the big dance. The message is clear, mediocrity is no longer accepted at SJU.
Adonis hurt because he had great size and certain skills , but after being on campus ten months there was no noticeable improvement in his conditioning. Again, untapped potential will not be tolerated at SJU.
I love the example our coach sets. He doesn't talk the talk but rather walks the walk.
I guarantee you all you will see production from AMar and Felix going forward as well as Jones if he is still around.

I don't agree that he should never have been on our roster. He walked on. He didn't hurt us in any way. If he ended up being a steal as a walkon like Barlow from Butler would that have been a bad thing? His leaving doesn't hurt us but it certainly doesn't help either. Taking him as a walkon was a win only situation for us.

It didn't work out where he helped us much but hopefully his time at St John's prepares the kid for an offer at another school and it helps him. The kids are important too.

Redmannorth is just a bit excited, I imagine, that Mullin will be having ranked players walking on. ;)

Best of luck to you, Myles! Thank you for your time at St. John's.
I really wish we could lay off the walkons and end of roster guys a bit. Myles paid his own way to try to realize his dream of playing big-time college basketball. It's not his fault Lavin didn't meet some expectations assembling the rest of the roster. Our walkons were fantastic and pushed practices and have our starters good looks on practice.

Some of you want to make the jump from a team that that is good every so often to a good program. Guess what? Walkons and quality end of roster guys are a huge part of that. It's a big reason why guys like Pitino and Izzo rarely disappoint in the tournament. Does Louisville win the national championship a few years ago if the little used walkon doesn't come in and hit two huge treys against Wichita St. What about this past tournament when Pitino's player was too hurt to take his own shots and Pitino chose a walkon who hadn't played all tournament? Izzo has had a few walkons earn starting spots. Coach K, while recruiting Tyrell Biggs at Don Bosco spent more time watching barely d-1 caliber shooter to add to his roster to push the practices.

I agree, I'm not sure why people think its a 'waste' year. There are thousands of people that would love the opportunity to play Big East ball at the garden if even for 2 minutes. He came in, he knew the deal, probably had a dream come true and now he is moving on. It seems it's going to work out fine for everyone.

A few years ago, in his weekly television show, Jay Wright did a GREAT segment on walkons. He said they are a big part of Villanova's success. The main reason is that for walkons, practices are their game days, and their job is to push rotation players to the max in scrimmages. He also said they are asked to watch assigned opposing players for the upcoming game and to mimic them in practice (e.g. go left, shoot off screens, etc). Wright is completely aware of those efforts, and tries to reward those kids with some limited court time when circumstances dictate. Is it any wonder that with an attitude like that, Nova (hardly alone) has great team spirit.

So, while every walkon, Myles included, hopes for game time situations where they contribute mightily to a win, their value goes far beyond those anticipated moments. Thanks, Myles, for your role in making us a 2014-15 NCAA team.

The absolute best part of that whole article is the second sentence....

"Red Storm coach Steve Lavin never saw him put up a shot until he was enrolled in school and working out on campus."

This pretty much sums up Lavin (even though I still support him)....we had to have been in contact with him prior to him enrolling. How do you tell a kid to come to a school and be a part of the basketball program (even though he was only a walkon) without ever watching him play? Does he really trust that HS coach that much? That just seems crazy to me....

As a walk-on it really doesn't matter. Most walk-ons don't see the light of day unless the game is a blow out.

. Another member of Lavins 14 recruiting class. Boy, Lavin really dropped the ball recruiting wise that year. That said, good luck Myles.Better off playing on a team where you will get more PT.

Just wondering, why are u still supporting him? As for him not having seen Myles play, that shouldn't surprise you since he barely saw ADR play, and ADR was projected to be our starting center and CTK is just a stone's throw away from SJU and Soho.
