Joe3,
I really didn’t want to take the bait, but I will.
I’ve occasionally advocated patience – and not much more than that. I have not advocated for blind optimism. You, are on the other hand, are constantly haranguing on this web site. Everyone knows how you feel. You have driven your point home. You probably have the most posts on this website – besides the moderators – and I would guess 90% of your posts are absolute complain-fests. It’s really over-the-top. Venting and being negative about the team is fine – you are entitled to that in this forum. However, you do it such an absurd extent that everyone gets sick of it. Please try and take your foot off the gas. There is a reason why other posters are specifically annoyed with you. You are too much.
Let me explain something that a lot of us intuitively already know. You apparently need it to be explained it to you:
There are probably around 340 players currently at the D1 level that were ranked in the ‘top 100’ coming out of high-school (100 freshmen, then assume attrition for departures for nba, and those just plain don’t want to play ball anymore: 85 sophomores, 80 juniors and 75 seniors) That’s a lot of top 100 guys. Three hundred-forty players divided by an average five top-100 guys per team = 68 teams with top talent (some teams will have more talent, some less). That shows that are lot of teams loaded with top-flight players. There are plenty of other teams that are trying just as hard as us. Just because you roll in a bunch of top-100 players doesn’t mean you achieve instant success. Let’s me explain: If the top 100 players mostly gravitate to the major power conferences, that means by definition, there will be plenty of teams with top 100 players that will have losing records (because all the teams with top-100 players compete against each other).
In light of that – is really that absurd or disappointing that we not have having the success that we want so early in the process? So, it’s not absurd that we are not winning games right now – and even losing in spectacular fashion.
Our program was basically in the dark ages for the better part of 15 years. We are now – finally – getting that top 100 talent back at our program. Are we are a perfectly built team? No. Do we wish the reverse weave offense – or whatever it is called – is run more efficiently? Yes. Do we wish Sanchez was eligible? Yes. The coaches had to take a lot of chances to recruit players to our moribund program. They’ve landed a lot of quality players. It hasn’t turned out perfect. We have pieces. We just need a few more – and for our guys to be learn to work together on the court.
There are no guarantees. We could be terrible again next year. Some posters are understandably distraught. But to complain and complain and complain – absolutely non-stop this early in the process is ludicrous. Give it a couple of more years for the coaches’ players to be able to mature, and for the team to fill out its roster. If it is not working then, by all means – feel free to complain all day long. Until then, it’s too much to complain ad nauseam. So please try and limit yourself.
You said in your post – that I’m “politically correct.” Well, I’ll try not to be so “politically correct” anymore if that’s what you prefer: Get lost. You are a broken record. Go back and wallow in your misery with the Mets. It seems to suite you. I presume I speak for a lot of posters when I say you bore us.
