Must be More athletic.

The press seems wonderful when you envision steals leading to easy baskets, wild passes thrown out of bounds in a panic, and travelling violations against a frantic, blanketing defense.

Now, envision us playing against the three, and apply it to the press. Late to the ball, long passes to open players up court, easy baskets. Time out.

Pressing sounds nice, and we have athletes who can run and jump. But as we have seen, that doesn't necessarily translate to great defense. If we can't cover 30 feet of the court from baseline to perimeter, what makes anyone think we can excel at 94 feet of pressure?

Bingo. The press needs to be a secondary defensive option not the primary one. Lets get a handle on our half court D first.

Press, press and press some more!!!!!!!!!!! We must use our speed and athleticism to tire them out . That is our strength. And we must defend the 3 with man to man coverage.

You can't get more athletic than we are. Athleticism is not the problem. They are not smart basketball players. Oh and you really want players lacking basketball IQ pressing when it comes to the new rules this year?

Could it be also we do not have a smart coach?

Sure. But I thought all our fans knew the deficiencies coming in?

You want to know what will happen? We will abandon the zone, or the matchup zone, for a straight man, emphasize fundamentals, like boxing out and helping out, push the ball up-court with a little more tempo, and the wins will pile up. Lavin will look smart, and I won't take credit for helping him. :)

This wasn't too far off.
