Press, press and press some more!!!!!!!!!!! We must use our speed and athleticism to tire them out . That is our strength. And we must defend the 3 with man to man coverage.

You can't get more athletic than we are. Athleticism is not the problem. They are not smart basketball players. Oh and you really want players lacking basketball IQ pressing when it comes to the new rules this year?

The problem is they aren't new rules, they just were never called. I know a few high profile refs and someone that is in charge of officials for a major conference, they have all told me before that they were told to be lenient so the games would be over in close to 2 hrs for TV. I know it sounds crazy but it happened.

How many of our kids do you think have the combination of athleticism, foot speed and bb IQ/instincts to make us an effective pressing team?

Yes we are very athletic but we do not use it. We must set the pace and control tempo. we should have made Wisconsin play our game and have them try keep pace with us. Run them into the ground and drive to the hoop and goods things will happen.

I don't doubt you. The problem is games last year were unbearable to watch. Watching teams score 40 points each over 40 minutes is downright crazy.

You'd rather watch a FT shooting contest? Kids today do not enter college fundamentally sound enough to play defense in a way that might have been proper 40 years ago. Calling the game by those rules is going to mean fouls by the dozens.

If I wanted to build a house with bricks I would watch those who build houses with bricks. I enjoy a good offensive game. I'm not a fan of the NBA but I can sit and watch an NBA game without wanting to gouge my eyes out because they make shots. Eventually the kids will learn. At least I think most teams will. Will our guys? That's debatable.

The best athletes are not necessarily the best basketball players.

Maybe it's watching STJ hoops for so long but I've started to appreciate a good rock fight. We'll see how the rule changes affect the game but I found the 2nd half tough to watch. Some good play but no continuity with whistles and FTs every time down the court. And I'm not going to be able to stomach 2:45 games.

Hall vs. Niagara had over 30 first half fouls. Kids are just going to half to learn.

The press seems wonderful when you envision steals leading to easy baskets, wild passes thrown out of bounds in a panic, and travelling violations against a frantic, blanketing defense.

Now, envision us playing against the three, and apply it to the press. Late to the ball, long passes to open players up court, easy baskets. Time out.

Pressing sounds nice, and we have athletes who can run and jump. But as we have seen, that doesn't necessarily translate to great defense. If we can't cover 30 feet of the court from baseline to perimeter, what makes anyone think we can excel at 94 feet of pressure?

Could it be also we do not have a smart coach?
