Mussini Update

However, Dixon is twice as fast. IMO he has a big upside.
But gets easily knocked off balance especially when driving.
If he played any D at all he would basically be a better version of Mussini. Mussini was vastly overrated shooter who could not guard because of physical limitations. He did play hard.
Agree, Mussini did play hard. I think Dixon has the physical tools to defend. The staff needs to bring that out of him.
I really don't want to keep killing Dixon, but I sometimes watch an individual and not the ball for a few possessions. My dad got me doing this when I was a kid and it is actually very annoying habit I wish I could break but my dad used to do it show me stuff you would normally miss if just watching the game. Team as a whole has been bad defensively last couple year, but Dixon is the most inattentive, lazy defender I have seen at ST John's in a real long time. Maybe ever.
Yeah ok buddy
Coach agrees which is why you see him come out after not defending and seldom see Dixon after 10 minute mark in 2nd half. I sometimes forget that just because people post on here it does not mean they actually watch the games.

Btw this isn’t a knock on Mussini, Dixon just has better tools. While Mussini played hard and can hit the three, Dixon can create his own shot, hit the open three and set up plays for other people because of his quickness.

Dixon has 9 assists. 6th on a team that barely plays 7.
While Dixon is quick, his handle is shaky and because of slight frame it is tough for him to penetrate because easily gets knocked off balance.
What Dixon does do better than Mussini is knockdown open shots

Before we compare, let's see how Dixon does against Big East level competition. I think his upside his fairly high and I do believe he will contribute, but his play against cupcakes has been less than inspiring to date.

Glad to see Mussini is enjoying a productive career, I wish him well. While comparing players is a fun but ultimately unsatisfying discussion, l will point out that Mussini is undefeated against Syracuse. Let Dixon beat an old rival a couple of times first.

While I wasn’t comparing with Dixon, I am not sure I would say Mikey was a better shooter than Mussini . In 30 some odd games at Quinnipiac , Mikey shot .45 percent from 2 point range and 37 percent from 3 point range . In Mussini’s last year here, he shot 41 percent from 2 point range and almost 43 percent from 3 point range . Mussini playing against tougher BE competition than Mikey did at Q. Mussini’s first year here , he was thrown into the fire to do everything and his shot percentage were lower as Mullin tasked him with everything , except driving the team bus .,Dixon May ultimately be a better player but, Mussini gave his all here at St John’s .

Agree Sly! Musso played under tremendous pressure and gave 150% every single game. That pressure affected his shooting in some games. Dixon is a very fluid outside shooter but plays nowhere near the intensity at present.

Glad there is some appreciation for Mussini here , 72 .. Playing the role he did in his second year must have been hard for him as Ponds and Lovett took over ... in retrospect , I kind of wish that Lovett left and Mussini stayed 1 more year . In all likelihood , we might not have gone 0 for January , if he did stay . But, who knows . I wish Mussini the best . Lovett , no ill will but, he did the team wrong ...
