Mussini Update

Mussini was a very good spot up Shooter that every good team needs .. I am still not convinced we have such a player on this Years team . 3 pt percentages are not always good indicators of success . Simon , for example , doesn’t attempt many but, has a good percentage . Yet , I wouldn’t say t would want him boosting up 10 3 pt shots a game . Mussini was a streaky shooter who got open more than enough to drain 3’s . With Lovett’s disappearance last year , we could have used him .

Who's better? Mussini, Trimble or Dixon.

Simon knows his limitations and therefore limits his attempts from there.

Yes we could have used Mussini last year and I know there are quite a few who didn't like him, we could have used Ellison also. But they both left for their own reasons and glad that Muss is doing alright. I hope the same from Ellison (who I have not checked up on since his first game).

Assuming that guarding PFs and Cs is not in the job description.

I would rate Mussini above Dixon at this point (so would Monte) Mussini would have been a serviceable ghighly experienced rotation player on this team, and he was sort of our Microwave. He could heat up quickly and nail 3 or 4 daggers in rapid succession.

He was not in Lovett's class at all, but with him on last season's squad the wheels wouldn't have fallen off for 11 straight games.

Dixon guards no one. Mussini actually tried. Dixon a better shooter though.
Would like to see Dixon play Mussini one on one. If you had to win by 2 game would never end since neither guy could guard anyone.

However, Dixon is twice as fast. IMO he has a big upside.

But gets easily knocked off balance especially when driving.
If he played any D at all he would basically be a better version of Mussini. Mussini was vastly overrated shooter who could not guard because of physical limitations. He did play hard.

Mussini would see a lot more open looks if he played on our current roster.

It's hard to imagine, but Federico was (for one season) on point guard duty through 18 Big East games. I think that was a lot to ask of him, but he was a tough kid.

Agree, Mussini did play hard. I think Dixon has the physical tools to defend. The staff needs to bring that out of him.

I really don't want to keep killing Dixon, but I sometimes watch an individual and not the ball for a few possessions. My dad got me doing this when I was a kid and it is actually very annoying habit I wish I could break but my dad used to do it show me stuff you would normally miss if just watching the game. Team as a whole has been bad defensively last couple year, but Dixon is the most inattentive, lazy defender I have seen at ST John's in a real long time. Maybe ever.

Dixon

Ok. Next person who says Dixon, is going to get a call from Joe Colombo and the Italian American Civil Rights League.

Of course Dixon has a higher upside, but Mussini is a skilled Euro who acclimated well to Big East basketball. At this stage I'd take Mussini for the immediate help he could provide

The defense of Dixon has improved nicely since the beginning of the season. He still has a ways to go but he is now an above average on the ball defender ( does not give top drives or dribble penetration) and his off the ball defense as well as fighting around, through and switching screens is average. This will continue to improve with practice and mental focus during games

Yeah ok buddy

Mussini gave us everything he had and especially in year 1 was put in a position (point guard) he had no business being in. Way too small a sample to judge Dixon vs. Mussini as a Johnnie. Mussini had some magic games for us Dixon hasn't had yet, but he also played a lot more games than Dixon has. Revisit this comparison at the end of the year.
