Mushnick Not a Fan of SJU Hoops

My favorite story about Phil Mushnick is him berating WFAN for the low brow humor on the morning show and them taking money from the fantasy sports advertisers. This was all in his mind very bad for the young people who might be listening. However, when you cracked open the good old NY Post and right next to Mushnick's blather were ads for the likes of Scores or Private Eyes including some very attractive, ahem let's say "dancers". The word "hypocrite" comes to mind.

From Today's N.Y. Post, page 68:

When did the folks who run St. John’s determine its men’s basketball program become an annual national bottom-feeder?
A completely ridiculous comment without any merit whatsoever. The new president and former AD are paying this staff far more than the prior staff which shows they are attempting to help the program. If they didn't care they could have hired a mid-major coach at a fraction of what they are paying the staff. The only thing I can think of is that Phil is a close friend of Slice and is looking to degrade the program. No other reasonable explanation for the comment.
Everyone has missed the boat on what he was referring too. His use of the term bottom feeder is referring to our recent acceptance of Zach Brown and prior problems with R Jordan, Chris O. ADR, Thomas.

Fair enough but why didn't he say that ?
You are making a huge assumption with no evidence to back it up.
Furthermore , as already stated by multiple posters Zach becomes our 13 th man and we already will have two experienced centres. If he screws up we lost our 13 th man , if he behaves and plays well we have a potential lottery pick a few years down the road.
Small risk for a potentially huge reward.
My evidence is that as a subscriber to the NY Post (best sports section in town) I am a frequent reader of his column and he is always taking athletes and teams to task for players who get into trouble with the law. You on the other hand are assuming he is referring to our teams performance on the court. The fact is we were an Ncaa team two years ago, had one bad season and I doubt he knows anything or is predicting anything about the upcoming season, therefore it is highly unlikely he was referring to on court performance as a bottom feeder.

Have to agree, along with Norm Roberts pursuit of Lance Stephenson who had trouble with the Law also.
Mushnick does his homework. Rysheed Jordan had no legal problems before St John's. It seems he is referring to recruiting and offering scholarships to less than moral individuals.

Salty, while Rysheed had no legal issues before signing with St. John's he came from a very similar background as Zach. By all accounts Zach had decent grades whereas Rysheed was a huge academic risk. Since most of the charges have been dropped against Zach I am going to go out on a limb here and assume the extent of his "less than moral" actions were not on the level of Rysheed Jordan.
Some here that go back with our program over 20 years will remember two kids with similar backgrounds that we recruited but could not get admitted to St. John's because they were even less "collegiate" than Rysheed. Lamar Odom played at CTK before being expelled. In high school he was a heavy weed smoker but it got worse when he left NYC.
Swee' Pee Daniels was another kid we recruited but was never able to get him past admissions. He went from weed to crack and had the reading level of a 5th grader when he enrolled at UNLV.
Zach is likely no where near as talented as these two examples but if this young man stays away from drugs (and any Kardashians), he could be an NBA player one day provided he escapes his demons from childhood. A kid named D'Angelo Harrison had anger issues also and he turned it around. There is no reason to believe Mully cannot do the same with Zach. ;)
