Mikey Dixon

Perhaps.
Now does someone have an intelligent retort to the time line?

Are alternative facts acceptable?
Lol.

I'm sure we will get a good spin sooner or later but it is what it was. Just don't get the need to have fans beat each other up over nonsense like Mike Rice or anything else on this forum if it was not necessary. I'm not sure how stringing Mike Rice along helped with any of his players we are involved with but at St. John's most wounds have been self inflicted so nothing surprises me.

Well embedded moles in Queens say that two transfers --- LJ Figueroa and Mikey Dixon --- have shined early in team workouts for St. John's. Dixon was MAAC ROY in 16-17. #SJUBB

[Standard "if Heron gets cleared disclaimer], we are going to straight up run teams out of the gym this season.

This is great news and reinforces my view about Figgy, and gives me confidence that Dixon can also make a tangible difference.
I agree with WIndy City: with Mustapha, there won't be many teams that can stay with us.
Further, hoping this translates into shut-down D.

Mikey is exactly the type of mid-major kid who would come into AH/CA and destroy us. It's going to be fun to have him on our side for three years.

I think he’s gonna be huge for us because he’s a scoring guard and takes a ton of pressure off Ponds. Add Heron and we are one of the toughest teams to guard in the country imo.

If the passing is good this season it will be extremely difficult to defend us. Passing will be the difference maker and I hope all the guys get that. Many teams never figure that out.

I was impressed last season with the passing when Ponds was not the only option and expect Mullin to emphasize passing with the talent this year. Mullin was a great passer in his day and a skill he can teach with his eyes closed.

Passing and scoring should be fine, but rebounding ...

I meant specific to the MCN comment about offense. When we have so many scoring options it can devolve into a lot of guys trying to do their thing and showcase themselves instead of moving the ball around and giving opportunities to everyone to score most efficiently and building chemistry. I'm also considering our inability the past few seasons to pass the ball inside which in my opinion really hobbled the effectiveness of the offense including the outside shooting...

Also I expect that Ponds' offensive numbers can go up significantly even with his minutes dropping. I hope he fully understands that.

I agree with your comments about the importance of unselfish ball movement. I only takes one guy to mess this up, but once guys understand that when they give ball up they will get it back if they are open, this could be lots of fun to watch.

The very good Artest teams did this, and of course Mullin and Jackson teams did as well.

If we have a great season, expect ponds to score less, but part of an arsenal of scorers. 16 to 18 points per sounds about right if we have 6 or 7 other guys capable of scoring. First 2 seasons he had to carry too much of the load. However with better looks, shooting % could go up

Hard for me to imagine Ponds scoring 4-6 pts less a night. Of course his minutes and usage should go down but would also expect his efficiency to go up. That 22 a game was on 28% for 3. Get that back up to 35% and I would think it makes up for the drop in shots.

I think his scoring may go down to around 18ppg but his assists should go up to around 6 or 7apg. if this happens, it means he is showing his whole game, scoring and passing. Hopefully as a team, our assists go up about 5 or 6 a game. This is definitely possible if we share the ball and set the pace of the game, since we have more players who can score.

I’m thinking the assist numbers go up regardless of his point totals. I don’t disagree with anything you said but my guess would be Ponds gets his 20 a game with fewer shots, better efficiency, and hopefully a couple dozen more “ice it away” free throws in our favor.

Scouts want to see Ponds defend and distribute better for obvious reasons. I agree with Beast re scoring output. NBA guys know he can score although increasing 3 point proficiency will please them as well. He’ll have a great season, better refine his game & help team improve record and BE results. Treasure the time we have had with Ponds, especially in rebuilding mode.

Last year STJ ranked last in the BE in Assists @ 12.8/game, Creighton #1 at 17.8/game. So it's unlikely to see a 6 or 7/game jump but let's just hope for some improvement in this and rebounding and shooting percentage too since all were abysmal last year.
That is something the coach’s should strongly control. It should not be a problem
The hardest thing to control is selfishness, especially when you have 12 guys all thinking of playing at the next level, impressing someone, and having a handler in their ear.
