That's a stretch. Repole was scathingly critical of the head coach search. That search was being conducted by Cragg.
Yes, he was explicitly harsh on Bobby G and Bobby O, but he scorched earth the whole program, the University, and Cragg.

IIRC in the interview he said that Cragg was being held back by the two Bobbys from doing his job and a thorough search for a new Head Coach and that Cragg wasn't to blame but the Bobbys were.

I was sitting in the 7-11 parking lot and I’ll go back and listen again bu my he most definitely praised Cragg. I’ll find the interview and give it a listen again

Just listened again literally not once did he say one negative thing about Cragg it was literally all praise for Cragg

What does Vinnie Viola have to do with St. John's?
Nothing really direct.  He's friends with Repole and they done some business together.
Vinnie is a Brooklyn guy who graduated from West Point.  A friend coached him is sandlot baseball and thinks the world of him as does the son of another friend who also went to the Point and raves about what a superb person he is.  A great friend to his fellow Pointers and servicemen.  Self made real billionaire (like Repole, another city kid who both have love of the ponies).  Vinnie's connection to Fordham is through his sons who attended and graduated from Fordham, which he came to appreciate as a Catholic institution teaching service to others.  He would have made a great secretary of the Army but realized/understood the conflicts of interest issues and asked for the nomination to be pulled.

I listened to it again and I stand corrected. You are right, he did not criticize Cragg. He did make statements that Cragg denied about the coaching search. And I am glad they did not go the way the Repole wanted and hired Hurley. Hurley is overrated and starting to lose support at Arizona. He needs a big next season to avoid the hot seat. Anderson is the right guy for us.

IIRC in the interview he said that Cragg was being held back by the two Bobbys from doing his job and a thorough search for a new Head Coach and that Cragg wasn't to blame but the Bobbys were.
But he also threatened that Cragg would be gone within a year if the school didn't let Cragg operate independently (presumably to do what his wealthy advisor wanted).   Cragg had to make it clear to the school that Repole was expressing his own opinions and that he was comfortable working within the framework of how the process was going.    In the end, Hurley used our offer to parlay that into a big raise from Arizona State, and even if he had come here, if he had success would probably have left at the first better offer.    I would say this is a case of the best thing possible happening above what Repole wanted in the hire.  We got a better coach for now and maybe the next 10 years.

Repole for his part, put himself in jail, relegated to root for a perennial mid major losing program and a school he didn't attend.   Time heals all wounds, and I'm pretty sure he still roots for his alma mater, but we will see what the future holds.

For his part, he thought rather small by suggesting that he was ready to finance half of a $20 million CA renovation.   Finneran donated $22 million to Villanova as part of a $70 million makeover of their arena.   I guess he went to the right guy (Francessa) who for his part didn't follow through on his offer to fund a scholarship in his mom's name.
