Ghostzapper that is an amazing record. I can’t believe you haven’t missed a Belmont in 45 years.
I can really relate to this story as it seems many of you can. I started watching thoroughbred racing as a seven year old in 1977 and have been to many memorable Belmont’s. My favorite was 1989 as Easy Goer came flying down the stretch to avenge his father’s devastating defeat in 1978. I think I had a stretch of at least ten straight Belmont’s going around then but haven’t been to many since I had kids. I have a party to go to Saturday afternoon but will be home in time to catch the race.
As Ghostzapper said the Belmont usually isn’t a dead closers race but some closers can rate in the Belmont as the pace is often manageable. I have to give the race a closer look but will definitely be rooting for both of Repole’s horses. Now that American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, I don’t mind if Justify loses. Baffert has won enough. Finally winning the Wood is pretty impressive for a kid from Queens.
