Dear St. John’s Supporters,

Warm greetings from our beautiful Queens campus. While the Spring season and weather are energizing for both the mind and spirit, I would be remiss not to note that we are all missing something important to us in March, as the St. John’s Basketball season ended far too early.

To that point, we all (coaches, staff, administrators, and student-athletes) want to make it known that we share in the disappointment of the final result on the court this past season. However, I can also assure you there are great things that lie ahead for a basketball program about which we are all passionate. Through the continuous hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, support staff and administration, we are all striving to deliver a consistent BIG EAST championship-level team to you, our loyal supporters, in the years to come.

We all know the wins and losses never tell the entire story of any team. It is important to salute our student-athletes who worked extremely hard to represent St. John’s so well. Their commitment to their craft on the court, dedication to their studies and their constant support for members of the community were truly amazing. Here at St. John’s there is no time to rest as we work hard to prepare for next season with the collective goal of returning to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.Our coaches are on the road recruiting and identifying talented future Johnnies. Our players are back in the gym and weight room.

Further, our dedicated administration and staff are already working on enhancing your game day experiences in Carnesecca Arena and Madison Square Garden. More on that in the weeks ahead.

Finally, I thank you for your steadfast commitment to helping us build something special here in Queens. Dedicated support from alumni and fans is essential to elevating this program to the next level. We must remain steadfast and enthusiastic in our commitment to our coaches and, most importantly, our student-athletes, as it plays a tremendous role in achieving our goal of competing for championships next March and beyond! We are proud to have you as a special part of St. John’s Basketball and our University! Best Always,

Mike Cragg

Just curious: was this a message to Red White Club members? (I made a contribution this year through the online portal but never had any direct contact from the RW Club, which I found surprising.)

Well if anything he laid down a marker.  He didn't criticize the staff but acknowledged the disappointment of this year and indicated his goal is to be in the NCAA Tournament next year.

I don't think that is an ultimatum but clearly he is not interested in 5 or 6 year rebuilding projects as some think we should expect.

It is extremely important to hear from the St. John’s’ authorities and we appreciate the recent messages from Coach  Anderson and Director Cragg. If anything these reassuring, clarifying messages should have been shared even earlier and on a regular or at least periodic basis.
A sincere thanks - and Blessings to our staff and student-athletes!

Nice touch by Cragg.

However, when I look at the facts it’s a tougher reality. I guess most of us are at the “show me don’t tell me” phase of “rebuilding”.

I take what Cragg says with a grain of salt, a statement for the sake of PR. Take away the part about the disappointing season and all the positive verbiage has been said before. While Im sure that the coaching staff is busting their butt to bring in quality players as no one has ever questioned their work ethic, there's a far cry from wanting to make the dance, believing you will as Cragg and Anderson predicted for this past season and actually making it. Talk is cheap, let's see the results.

LOL!

Amaseinyourface posted a picture of Ala. St. arena seating 7500 that is used for entertainment purposes in addition to basketball. With the financial problems facing SJU in their expansion plans has there been any thought to expand CA as a multi purpose facility.
CA is located in a good area  with sufficient parking that could appeal to the public.
