Mike Boynton won 21 games in his first year at Oklahoma State. The team struggled last year. However, he is a local person who has recruited nationally. From what I hear, a lot of local AAU coaches would support him. I have also heard that he would be interested in coming to St Johns.
I would rather have a young hungry coach who is willing to work hard to build a program, than a Mid Major coach who has been successful elsewhere. With the right assistants, I believe that he could do a very good job here.
Absolutely, Boynton seems like a very good candidate.
Regarding the team's struggles last year, Boynton had to dismiss three players for conduct unbecoming (one was former SJU recruit Maurice Calloo). He also lost a number of players to transfer (2), professional contracts (2), and to graduation (3). So, I don't think last year is a fair representation of his coaching ability.
