Sju had the leverage. A trial costs money and the courts are backed up as it is so the start can take years. There are risks to the outcome. If they lose they can drag payment out on appeal. And in the end an award could be less than full amount.
Anderson wanted full contract amount and wouldn't take anything less despite sju offering what they thought was fair.
Going to guess that the settlement was closer to our final offer than the full contract amount.

I can’t stress this enough, this would not have gone through a trial but through arbitration which is how Anderson filed his lawsuit (dispute). Arbitration is a totally different situation and process than trials and has different rules (as explained previously in a better way than I could in another thread).
Prob not bi ding arbitration so likely more like mediation., correct?
This was binding arbitration with a very limited and extremely high standard for appeal.
