Mike Anderson Suit

I said this last Spring when they fired him "for cause."

That it was a bit of a ploy by SJU to get a negotiated settlement where they would not have to pay the full buyout.

My guess is that is exactly what happened. SJU saved some $$$ and Mike Anderson may not have gotten his full buyout but got a nice chunk of change.

I'm glad that's over with. Since terms were not disclosed, it was probably a fair deal. Both sides are probably a little unhappy with it.

I’d take the over.
If so, not a bad haul. I wonder if Mike still wants to coach. I'm sure he could get a job at a decent mid-major somewhere in the south where he might still have some recruiting connections. He did a pretty good job of getting some quality under the radar guys at St. John's who developed nicely. He just didn't have enough of them to make an impact in the Big East.

IMO playing styles in high level college basketball passed CMA by as evidenced by the fact that his offensive style never really embraced the 3 point shot.

CMA’ “40 Minutes of Hell” seemingly was built on the simple principal of out hustling the other team but never seemed to advance with changing styles.

I always questioned whether his nephew TJ Cleveland as an assistant coach was an empty suit, but I was recently told by someone in a position to know that TJ and CMA differed in the Johnnie’s’ offense and that had TJ been listened to the there would have been more 3 point shooters/ shooting.

CMA’s failure to modify his team’s play style with the passage of times is analogous to SU’s Boeheim’s continued use of the 2- 3 zone which was more effective decades prior to his retirement when players were less efficient shooting the 3.
