Reggie Carter started his collegiate career at Hawaii, and his assistant coach there was Rick Pitino. (Rick was interim head coach that season for the last six games as well.)

Reggie played 3 seasons at SJU, sitting out the fall semester in 1977. Reggie was clutch like Boo Harvey when the game was on the line. The Duke game you mentioned was a second round game in Raleigh and a Reggie buzzer beater from the baseline sent us to the sweet 16.

His senior year he nailed a baseline buzzer beater again at McDonough Gym sending the Hoyas fans home is disbelief. Reggie left us way too soon.

Reggie Carter is one of SJUs best guards but the Louisville game showed Darrell Griffith to be bigger, stronger and much more athletic. Carter was a very good defensive player but he had his hands full with Griffith who I think is the best opponent player to perform at CA.

The WHOLE ville team was bigger stronger and more athletic. I remember the buildup to the game being on national TV, there were even cameras rigged on the backboards to catch the expected dunks.

ville came out with a swagger during warmups and once the game started you could feel the air being sucked right out of AH as they controlled it from the start.

If Curtis Redding could have kept his head on straight that 1980 team could have gone places. Curtis, Rencher, Carter, Russell and McKoy was a nice quintet. I know Plair and Gilroy started but that five would have worked. NCAA committee screwed us by having us play Purdue at Purdue after a first round bye.

I don’t know if Redding caused problems on the 79/80 team but it was the following year that he was benched during a game and started routing for the opposing team while in the bench. He subsequently quit the team or was asked to leave.

When Curtis was at KSt. and they went to play KU the Jayhawk fans threw hot dogs on the court when he was introduced.
