Shocking.You're black?
Long term memory is the last to go. I remember that 1965 team better than I remember some of the Norm teams. Then again maybe that’s selective memory.I forgot what I had for lunch today. How do you guys remember a half century ago
That's just your mind/memory eliminating the bad stuff clogging up your hard drive.Long term memory is the last to go. I remember that 1965 team better than I remember some of the Norm teams. Then again maybe that’s selective memory.

"We nearly all still count him among the Redmen greats"? I know I'm being picky, SLYFOXX (for, which I apologize), but I can't think of a single Redmen fan who saw Sonny play who doesn't count him among our all-time greats. We were lucky to have him and that entire '65 team to root for.You and I have , from time to time , talked about that 65 team and , in particular the McIntyres and Sonny Dove
For those of us who saw Sonny play , for his 3 years , we nearly all still count him amongst the Redmen greats . ..
I went chalkDamn now I remember. Nice guess
Was going to post similarly but you got there first! Dove was a great, great player."We nearly all still count him among the Redmen greats"? Davidson was led by Mike Maloy from Bryant HS in Queens. First black player there.
I had a close relationship with Sonny, while he was at St Johns and later when he was in the League. He used to live five blocks from me. As for Kenny McIntyre, I didn't really know him but he was my favorite player. I was probably the only Black kid in NYC that wanted to be Kenny McIntyre![]()

Yes would have been all time leading rebounder for certain with the extra year. As it is a he is second. My all time favorite Johnnie.RK, I think that’s the key word (s) here is “ saw Sonny Dove Play .”
Most of the posters here , don’t go back that far .
So , his play is not easily viewable if at all as video was t a big deal then .
I agree anyone , no actually everyone who saw Sonny play knew he was great !
Let me see, if I have this right . His number was 55 ?
I don’t know where that came from but , just popped into my head .
I do believe , during that time , Sonny was many fans Favorite player .
Of course , back in those days, freshman could not play on the Varsity team . Otherwise , Sonny could have had 1 more year to post Statistics .
I hated Sonny when I first saw him play for St Francis Prep. He’d come into our Molloy gym and eat up Rudy Bogad. I don’t think we ever beat the prep when he was there. Obviously I changed my tune when I got to St John’s.Yes would have been all time leading rebounder for certain with the extra year. As it is a he is second. My all time favorite Johnnie.
A fellow Stanner! I graduated in '63. As bad as Sonny was. Lew was the worst.I hated Sonny when I first saw him play for St Francis Prep. He’d come into our Molloy gym and eat up Rudy Bogad. I don’t think we ever beat the prep when he was there. Obviously I changed my tune when I got to St John’s.
