I know there are some posters that are firmly against the idea, but I'm still of the opinion Tim Cluess would be a great fit at St. John's. I understand the concerns. Why don't his teams play defense? Will he be able to recruit in the Big East? But this is what I always come back to. Wherever he goes, the team gets a lot better. And that's good enough for me.

I think that any negativity from our posters, except for the most irrational, would be overwhelmingly positive once he turned this program into a steady stream of NCAA appearances.

I think the biggest issue most posters would have with him would be the complete lack of defense.
Some might have an issue with his temperament. That doesn't personally concern me, though.
Others might take issue with the fact that he looks like John Holmes, but that doesn't bug me, either.

Legend!
Your neighbor Beast?I'm not sure I buy the no defense stuff against Cluess. Read this article and it's clear he favors pushing the ball up the court to create easy scoring opportunities before the defense is set. The whole idea of high scoring games is appealing to fans and especially to players. The 30 second shot clock will happen, to increasing the number of possessions, subsequently # of shots and baskets. College prospects would much rather think of averaging 16 points per game for a team that averages 80 points, than 12 points for a team that averages 60. Players would rather push the ball up the floor than walk it up and run half court sets.
All any intelligent person needs to validate for Cluess is his winning record. He's been extended twice already at Iona, a testimony to the school's appreciation of the turnaround he's led. Considering that Ruland left the school is a huff where he burned bridges and the progam, Cluess has done a remarkable job. If Lavin should leave, and Cluess hired, it would almost certainly be his last job. He lives 10 minutes from campus, and hasn't even relocated to Westchester to be closer to Iona. He doesn't seem to be particularly enamored with big money, living in a modest community close to SJU. He's the guy should we make a change - hands down.

I've been out of Floral Park 30 years. The renowned basket ball mind, Joe Jagde, speaks highly of Cluess. Joe says he can coach defense so that's good enough for me.
Cluess teams beat Cooley teams in the other league. Why would they not beat them here?
I find it funny that posters knock his defense while the johnnies and other programs are afraid to play him
He stole that line from Columbo!I've been out of Floral Park 30 years. The renowned basket ball mind, Joe Jagde, speaks highly of Cluess. Joe says he can coach defense so that's good enough for me.

Few people know more about basketball than Joe Jagde. Give him 2, 3, 4, or more hours, and he'll expound on almost any basketball subject. Famous line when you are trying to go: "Okay, jsut one more thing..."
Here's the most important thing about Cluess' team's defense: They hold the opponent to less points than they score themselves. Enough for me.
