Just realized Marquette plays tonight against providence.

Good for us, they only have one day to prepare for us, and we have had since yesterday.

Game against Providence is on fox sports 1, if anyone is interested.

We play Marquette Saturday at 12:30 PM EST.
At MSG

Edit: we actually play them at 12:30, I changed it above.

I'm looking forward to this game tonight. Coming off the tough loss against Nova on Saturday, it will be interesting to see how Marquette responds. If they lose to Providence at home, they will be borderline desperate for a W this Sat.

Who is staying for the G'Town-Michigan St game, it's a big win for the conference if the Hoyas can pull it out

I've watched both teams several times this season, and unless MSU plays their worst game of the season, expect a blowout.

I hate to agree with you but I think you are right. I was at the Michigan St - Oklahoma game at Barclays earlier this season. When MSU is on they are tough to beat, but they have some injury issues so you never know. More importantly, it's now February, so if Lavin is right, let the winning streak begin ;)

I'm assuming Dawson and Payne played in that game. They are a pretty good team without those two, but only very good with them and I think they're still both out. That said GTown has been awful of late and lost their own big man to suspension so MSU should still beat them.

Marquette, at home, leading Providence at the half, 31-14
They are playing awesome defense, completely taking Providence out of their offense
If they can play with that level of defensive intensity against us, we're in trouble
They are playing like a team possessed

Nothing to be scared of. Both teams played an ugly game.

I love Michigan State this year, but I think it will be a close game.

Take the under.

Marquette allowed the Friars to close to 4 points in the second half after trailing by 17, didn't handle the pressure defense. They don't have good three point shooters similar to us, Thomas being their best outside shooter. However, they penetrate and hand off to Gardner or Otule. Gardner is especially effective playing the high post with passes to the low post area, plus he can score from the foul line area.
Buzz Williams pulled a Lavin by starting two freshmen with Gardner, their best player, on the bench. We have to fast break every opportunity we get, especially with their two slow moving centers. Being that they are poor three point shooters I would almost recommend a zone, however I am not so confident that defense will stop their penetration. Hopefully, Lavin starts with a press. Madison Square Garden be good to us.

Marq has no outside game. They shoot 29% from 3 which is worse then us. Thomas is their only consistent threat from outside though Mayo could get hot at times

Stat of the day: Max Hooper at 39% is our top 3 pt shooter

Also Marq's only road win was at GTown who was playing without Smith and Trawick so they had nobody to match up with Gardner and Otule.

The pick: St Johns by 17

UGLY? Aren't we in that category too..

speaking of Max Hooper, he got plenty of minutes last game, as far as im concerned he didnt maximize those minutes. He is not in there for defense or to run the offense, he is in there for one reason only, SHOOT the 3. He needs a quicker release and to create his own shot. Perfect example is how Creighton's Dougie does it. Just my two cents....

He is out there for one reason,to shoot the 3. Plays have to be run for him and team mates have to look for him when he is open.If he can start making his 3 s ,things will open up for everybody. But,he can't make a 3 if he is wide open and no one passes him the ball.

Tired argument. He's gotten 10x more of a chance than Marco Borgault, who is overall a better basketball player. Everytime you think of saying this again, think of Max curled up in a ball with 20 seconds to go and costing us the Providence game all by himself.

There was a kid we had just a few years ago who transferred out who could actually hit shots when they counter. HE went out west, and really didn't distinguish himself there, but didn score more points. What was his name?

PG IV refuses to pass the ball to him regardless of how open he is.

Larry Wright?

Not a day goes by that posters don't fantasize about their illusions of Max Hooper.

Incidentally Max doesn't even have the best 3 point percentage on the team but then again, why let facts get in the way of illusions.
