Mark Jackson and the NBA

I seriously hope we've learned our lesson in regards to firing a coach mid-season. Kevin Clark was a lame duck who had no control of the team in 2004.

It may be tougher than we think to land a big name coach next year. Buzz Williams leaving Marquette one of the Big Easts premier programs, for lowly Va Tech is a huge blow for the prestige of the conference. Idk how much money he got from Va Tech but I sure hope it was a lot.

He got less than he was making at Marquette.

Actually, any SJU administrator who made or approved that decision should have in turn been fired for it. If you remember, they left the team with a skeleton coaching staff which was a major contributing factor to the unsupervised night in Pittsburgh

Just wondering aloud if the Artis debacle didn't hurt Lavin a little bit with regard to a possible extension at this time
The official paid visit certainly didn't generate positive publicity for St John's

Probably didn't help. I was one of the minority on this board in that I thought we should give Artis consideration. I actually applaud Lavin for having him here and taking some heat on that. But the fact that he felt he had to go down the Artis road in the first place is the bigger issue, IMO.

But he is coaching in a BCS football conference and that is something the new BE cannot offer. Everyone knows where all this is going and aligning with a football conference is just good business for Williams.

I agree with you on this one. If Artis met with Lavin, and came off as an outstanding kid who then explained, "Coach, this was the dumbest thing I've ever done in my life. To participate in this at all is shameful, and I hope I haven't destroyed this girl." or something of that manner, may have given Lavin some pause to consider him a good kid who acted horribly out of character.
