Malik Sealy To Be Inducted to SJU Hall of Fame

Sealy was my favorite Redmen growing up as well. I'm from a family of SHU fans and I loved seeing Sealy and Dehere going basket for basket.

He is an article about Malikhttp://nypost.com/2000/05/27/sealy-remembered-as-gentle-soul-who-never-stopped-giving/

Which details his charitable spirit.

I also remember the play book incident with the pacers and the subsequent Malik Sealy 21 designer neckwear playbook tie. He must of had a great sense of humor as well.

Thanks for posting this. I had a client who was about 40 minutes outside of Minneapolis, and had driven on the road that Sealy was killed. I can't believe it was that long ago, coming up on 14 years. Can't be, can it?

With no disrespect at all, since everyone always what a great guy Malik was, can someone here enumerate any off the court accomplishments, charitable or humanitarian efforts, volunteerism, etc. I'm thinking that the SJU HOF may go beyond sports achievements? Can anyone pitch in here?

Besides his generous ways with the community, I will always remember Malik's good character from a brief moment back in 1993. I was covering a game at MSG for the Torch and Malik was in town during his 1st season in the NBA. I saw Malik in the locker room area while he was visiting his former teammates after the game and he was as nice and gracious as could be taking the time to chat with me.

Here was a guy in the NBA (and we know how that can easily go to a kid's head) around some of his buddies from his old team in the locker room of the world's most famous arena, and he was gracious enough to talk to me like we were old friends. You could just see the genuine nature in the guy's eyes. He was not only an amazing and gifted basketball player, but an all around nice guy.

Even though it seems like a minor thing, I remember that moment as much as the amazing things he did on the court.

Amazing that we don't have a Hall of Fame area and also that we haven't done anything with Hall of Fame for
quite some time.

Guessing that there isn't much space for it at CA, but I agree it would be nice to have an area that could be open before and after games. In Citifield there is a somewhat small space, and it was nicely done, but limited. I am not sure if Yankee stadium has one. It would be quite expensive to do it right, not only with memorabilia, but multimedia touchscreens, etc. Maybe a nice fundraising project by one of our alumni

A great day for our HOF'ers.....I have the pleasure of sitting with Fred Bichoff at all our games......

There has been talk of expanding CA (toward Union Turnpike) and building a HOF. Obviously this will take $$

There is about 15 feet of space between the outer wall of CA and Union Tpke. sidewalk. How is that feasible?

expanding the capacity or just space for a hall of fame?

It is my understanding that it would be for a HOF, not to expand seating capacity. That said, nothing is in the works at this time and there is no timetable for the initiative.

I remember a trip I took to Greensboro for big east acc challenge and Malik dropped 41 on Duke. I miss the king!!!
