What a run, keep it up boys. Even though the Big East's representative in the Windy City is a Vincentian school like ours who can't root for this Loyola team. I was ten when they won it all in '63 and didn't really follow college basketball much back then. DePaul and Loyola had some big moments in college BB over the years just like we did, but Loyola won it all and not in the 30's in the 60's good for them. They had NBA talent in '63, not this team, which makes the story even better.

The fact that they have a Sister Jean (who I cannot believe is 98 years old) makes for an even better story.

I hope they make it to the Final Four. This is a fun team.

If anyone has a Sister Jean bobble head they'd like to sell let me know.

I wonder if she was affiliated with the University 55 years ago.Great story. They shot 40% as a team from 3 this year and have a really balanced team where a lot of players score. Custer was originally at Iowa State and was rated #92 by Rivals in high school.

After the first-round game, she commented on how this team compared with the '63 squad, so, it sounds like she might've been there 55 years ago. And if not, she was at least familiar with that team.

The Big East offered the wrong Chicago school membership.

Perhaps with major conference affiliation Loyola could have been a sustained power.

Perhaps DePaul, like St. John's, is really bad at selecting coaches even though they have "major conference affiliation".
Both Vincentian schools have been the bottom of the Big East barrel for quite a while now in two of the country's major media cities.
In a mom and pop culture you are as good as the cheap help you hire.

Ray Meyer , probably Coached DePaul for 100 Years or longer . Likely being paid pennies like Lapchick and Louie early in Lou’s career. Vincentians seem more miserly than other orders who have had great Programs . After Meyer Sr , DePaul went with Joey Meyer until he got canned . Then a string of Coaches to rival our own 15 year Doldrums . Leitao now on his second tour . Like us , DePaul hasn’t enrolled much of the Chicagoland talent that has spawned players for other Programs . Possibly even more so than us , as their kids likely want out of town for obvious reasons. Please don’t take that as a political statement . More a realistic one . Loyola Chicago , Jesuit run, has had doldrums as long as DePaul, maybe longer . Every once in a while , a Cinderella team emerges and it’s the Ramblers this year . They are fun to watch and Sister Jean lights it up too , in her interviews . Hope they go all the Way !

Hats off to these guys, amazing. It's been a joy to watch these guys play a beautiful brand of basketball. Team first basketball is what it's all about. The thing I love about college basketball is its always evolving. Teams have figured out how to beat the one and done factories with experience and team work. 5 stars, 4 stars the hell with all that crap its not necessary to achieve success in college. Can't help but feel like I'm watching a team of destiny. Congrats to the Loyola Ramblers on getting to the Final 4. This has been the best Ncaa tournament in a long time, maybe even of all time to be honest.

If Custer has any eligibility left , Mullin and Matt should be on a plane to Chicago . Regardless of what we have on deck , you make room for a player like Custer . What is striking about the Ramblers is all their players move at full speed all game . Custer , Richardson , Townes, Ingram are blurs dancing around the Court . It’s a style that wears opponents out . We walk the ball up Court way too much but, that might be because we had no Bench . And , no one could criticize Custer for being too slow . He blows by guys a lot .

To play for two Hall of ................. ah forget it

No, we don't walk the ball up because of a short bench. Our offense was getting Ponds the ball. Mullin’s offense is a free form one trick pony. When that pony wasn't on the track, we were off our game. No interior offensive sets or plays other than Simon to Owens or Bashir charging the basket like a bull in a China shop.
I take it you like Loyola-Chicago's offensive mind set more than our NBA offense with our offensively challenged team.
Good choice. Maybe, just maybe, that's why they have won 32 games and are in the Final Four and St. John's, with better and higher ranked players, won half that amount while playing mostly 7 players most of the season.

I’m hearing from inside sources (my wife) that Sister Jean was with Munderlein College—a small traditionally-exclusive girls school—that Loyola ‘merged with’ around 1995.
Loyola wanted to complete its great lakeside Chicago campus—and also got Sister Jean in the deal!

Watching them play it surprised me how mediocre that coach has been in his career.

After Moser's 15-17 and 8th place finish in year three Rambler.com was ready to run him out of town. Loyola's very own class of 72 was commenting several times on a daily basis about their dire situation. Posters wondered why anyone would play for this nobody when Hall of Fame coaches where being hired to head up other programs. It was really turning negative during the off-season when the few old guys with nothing to do during a cold March took it out on Porter. Why wasn't he featured in the recruiting web sites hunting down kids? The best anyone could say was that year four was the key.

Then he won and the posters jumped back on the wagon, except for one or two disgruntled guys - even the great Porter Moser can't win over everyone.

This post reminds me of a similar situation. But I can’t place it. Wait. Wait. Nope. I got nothing, although it does sound so very familiar. ;)
